Personal Care Aide or CNA- Assisted Living
Job Summary
Grace Village Assisted Living and Memory Care is seeking full or part-time personal care aides. NC certificate to practice as an Assisted Living Personal Care Aide preferred. Training classes provided if currently not trained.
Nature and Scope
Personal Care Aides provides personal care to Assisted Living residents as required by state regulations; as outlined in the resident’s care plan, and through the community’s policies.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming (oral care), toileting, changing of bed linens, positioning, transfer, mobility, and incontinence care. Encourage residents to be as independent as capable.
- Maintain records of care required by the community including forms and documentation.
- Immediately report any observations of concern/changes in resident’s condition to the Supervisor-in-Charge.
- Monitor vital signs as needed or directed by regulations, policy or primary care physician’s orders.
- Be able to apply the community’s accident, disaster, fire safety, elopement and emergency procedures for protection of the residents.
- Be familiar with policies and procedures.
- Be capable of performing CPR upon successful completion of CPR certification.
- Be knowledgeable of the residents’ background, preferences, habits and interests and preserve confidential information about each resident.
- Focus on service to residents during dining and promote meal time.
- Provide assistance to individual residents as needed or directed, with eating, carrying plates, trays or beverages.
- Laundry and cleaning functions.
- Monitor all exit doors, the call and alarm systems to assure prompt response.
- Promptly answer facility telephone in a professional manner and per community’s policy.
- Understand and follow safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Report incidents to the Supervisor-in-Charge promptly and complete paperwork.
Other
- Successfully complete Licensed Health Professional Skills Check and other required State or community training.
- Attend all required stand-up meetings and in-service training.
- Participate and promote and encourage resident’s involvement in activities.
- Follow and communicate company values, goals and policies and procedures.
- Assists with cost control by using facility supplies efficiently.
- Responsible for ensuring that all employees are providing excellent service to residents, and all community visitors.
- Perform job duties for residents and with team members in a courteous and professional manner.
- Take initiative to ensure resident safety and satisfaction is a priority.
- Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner (Visitors include anyone who visits the community; specifically, current residents’ families and friends, prospective residents and their families, referral sources, vendors and regulators).
- Answer phones appropriately, according to company and Community standards.
- Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents’ rights.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Successfully complete training as required or accepted by State regulations. If not certified, willing to complete training within 6 months of hire.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff and the general public.
- Be familiar with the Adult Care Home Residents’ Bill of Rights and be willing to assist residents in exercising their rights.
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work responsibly as a team member and an individual.
- Must be honest, ethical, fair, and dependable.
- Must respect confidentiality and adhere to the rights and privacy of others in accordance with local, state and federal laws.
- Maintain practice certification and required hours of training per year.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Must meet all health requirements.
- Must pass criminal background check and drug screening.
