What is Boston Prep?


Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2023-2024, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families residing in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As a charter public school, we welcome all students via an impartial public lottery, and hold the same high expectations and ambitions for all of our students, including those with special needs and English language learners.

As a Boston Prep staff member, you are committed to a 185-day school year and a 7.5 hour school day. Staff members are required to be onsite from 7:00 am -4:45pm daily. Members of the school leadership team should be ready to be onsite for work on Monday, July 17, 2023. Compensation for this role is commensurate with experience and most experienced candidates should expect to start around $70k-$85k.


As a
Dean of Student…


You believe in creating an educational experience where students are able to see themselves reflected in the content of your class. As a member of the High School team, you are responsible for the following:


Service Delivery

  • Serve as the Lead Dean for High school student culture and discipline, in collaboration with other members of the High School Leadership Team
  • Support and implement an effective and accountable High School Dean’s Office at all times, including monitoring, tracking students’ growth and behavior.
  • Oversee and support the Associate Dean in the development of a positive student experience, culture and discipline
  • Monitor and track students in the High School Dean’s Office
  • Collaborate with teachers, students, school counselors, and families to create and effectively implement individual behavior plans
  • Lead staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance, arrive at school on time prepared to learn, and are in the school uniform arrive to individual classes on time
  • Own and analyze student behavior and culture data to support individual student, grade level, and school-wide goals
  • Collaborate and communicate daily with teachers and staff to meet students’ needs
  • Establish a professional rapport and strong relationship with students, staff, and families, including communicating and meeting with families on a regular basis
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior when working with students, families, and staff
  • Support the effective implementation of school culture systems, including detention, whole school moments
  • Be highly present and visible during school hours, 7am-4:45pm



Partnering with Students and Families

  • Communicating frequently with students, families, and school leaders around academic and behavioral progress
  • Attending occasional after-school events

Building of School Culture

  • Plan, lead and model during key culture moments including whole school moments, joy/culture based incentives and daily systems.
  • Monitor whole school culture via classroom observations, management of behavior plans and PD sessions for GLT chairs and teachers.
  • Serve as a liaison between school, families, students and teachers.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of Boston Prep’s character development initiatives (i.e advisory, ethics, community meetings)
  • Oversee disciplinary and attendance processes
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior when working with students, families, and staff
  • Responsible for developing and implementing Ethics curriculum aligned to Boston Prep’s Virtues and Portrait of a Graduate
  • Frequently communicating the school’s mission to children and families
  • Adhering to school academic and culture protocols
  • Assuming extracurricular responsibilities, if desired

Maintenance of Organizational Culture

  • Actively engaging in one’s learning; seeking and acting on feedback regularly
  • Actively pursuing professional development, inside and outside of the school
  • Collaborating with teachers and school leaders to advance the school’s mission

Qualifications Include…

  • Previous experience as a Dean of Students preferred
  • Effectively trained in social-emotional learning
  • Experience working within a school environment or extensive work with children, teenagers, and young adults
  • A strong work ethic, extensive knowledge of child and adolescent development, and a documented track record of personal and professional success
  • Oral and written proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole desired, but not required
