Responsibilities:
  • Teach as assigned Medical/Surgical, Pediatric, Obstetrical, Psychiatric Nursing and/or Fundamentals in clinical and/or in the classroom, during the day, evening and/or weekends
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders important to the college
  • Assist, advise, and mentor students regarding nursing pathway plan and/or applicable course content, skills, post-test review, and other resources focusing on student retention
  • Collaborate with VHCC nursing faculty implementing concept-based curriculum
  • Integrate technology with teaching and managing courses in person or online including Canvas, Zoom, classroom equipment, and computer software
  • Maintain ten office hours per week
  • Establish and assess student outcomes and participate in institutional effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews
  • Participate in activities including but not limited to: accreditation activities, institutional effectiveness activities, serve on college committees, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty
  • Maintain currency in their teaching discipline and in trends in community college education
  • Perform other such duties as may be deemed appropriate

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in MSN program
  • Must be licensed in the state of VA in good standing or compact state
  • Two years recent, related clinical experience
  • Candidate must be proficient in oral and written communication in the English language
  • Understanding of and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders important to the college
  • Ability to teach in person, online, in a laboratory setting and clinicals during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends
