The College of Engineering is seeking an experienced and talented individual to join our undergraduate academic advising team. About our Team: The College of Engineering academic advising team serves undergraduate students with a focus on student success and proactive, holistic advising, academic advisors engage students in exploring and pursuing their academic goals. Advisors support students through the major and minor exploration process. Working collaboratively to create academic plans, and ensuring students understand graduation requirements such as general education, bachelor degree requirements, and course prerequisites.
About the Position: This advisor will work on the academic affairs team in the Dean’s office. Advising continuing students who are exploring the majors within the College of Engineering. Advising, enrolling, and tracking students in the Engineering Scholars Program, provides administrative support for the Engineering Entrepreneurship Certificate. Coordinate outreach activities with two-year institutions within the State of Utah. Strong applicants are great at communication, have experience working with diverse populations, and have a passion for supporting students throughout their academic journey. While this job is primarily in-person, teleworking options are available for all advising staff.

Job Summary
In the College of Engineering, autonomously advises a diverse population of students regarding their academic planning and progress by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. Designs, implements, oversees and evaluates advising programs, including the Engineering Scholars Program, that contribute to the academic advising mission of the institution. Utilizes professional advising and guidance skills to assess diverse needs of students and provide appropriate advice related to academic planning and progress leading to graduation.
This position will assist the University in promoting a climate of respect and equity that cultivates and sustains transformative practices by forging spaces of possibility where people feel safe, valued, welcomed, and respects all students in their quest for individual success through degree programs, certificates, majors, etc.


Responsibilities
1. Establishes program direction and objectives, prepares and administers budget and manages available resources (e.g., money, space, staff, supplies, etc.).
2. Assesses needs of students and adjusts the structure of the program to address those needs.
3. Provides significant input and assists in the formulation of overall University advisement policies and procedures.
4. Assists in the selection, supervision and evaluation of lower level advising and support staff.
5. Serves on various University committees to initiate change and to resolve issues related to academic services and curriculum requirements.
6. Engages in campus-based professional development communities, including but not limited to UAAC or other relevant campus-based organizations that advance academic advising skills.
7. May provide advising services to a diverse student population by performing the duties of an Academic Advisor.
8. Develops, monitors and conducts educational seminars and workshops for College of Engineering Transfer Students and for students pursuing Engineering Entrepreneurship Certificates.
9. Provides administrative support for the Engineering Entrepreneurship Certificate program.
10. Oversee and/or facilitate new programming communities, including Engineering Scholars Program, for students with in their area, including but not limited to activities such as overseeing a mentoring program, student organizations, etc.
11. Coordinates outreach activities with two-year institutions within the State of Utah.
12. Develops and prepares advising materials, such as training manuals, brochures, handouts, general information summaries and newsletters.
13. Works with information technology departments to support advising programs and services.
14. Participates in local and national professional associations by serving on planning committees and presenting at conferences and seminars.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (1 year of education is equivalent to 2 years’ experience).
  • 4 years of direct academic advising experience.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills
