The Poole College of Management offers undergraduate degrees in accounting, business administration, and economics. The Office of Undergraduate Programs within Poole College promotes and supports the holistic development of Poole College students as leaders in our
varied, global community. In partnership with our faculty, staff, and external constituents, we provide the resources necessary to empower students to make well-informed decisions in support of their academic, professional, and personal development. The unit values the components of our college and university mission, vision and strategic plans.

The Office of Undergraduate Programs supports our undergraduate student resource units in the Poole College of Management including academic advising, global programming, and career and internship development. Our academic advisors act as a catalyst for students to achieve their best outcomes, providing developmentally focused advising that incorporates both curricular and co- curricular guidance. Our academic advisors are instrumental in the whole student experience from the academic requirements necessary to progress to graduation to the full breadth and depth of co-curricular offerings within our College that allow students to be as competitive as possible upon graduation.

Essential Job Duties
This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Schedule.

The primary role of the Academic Advising Team is to serve our 3,800+ students within our team model of academic advising undergraduate students in the Poole College of Management. Our team members advise students on academic requirements (matriculation through graduation), course selection and registration, and other issues related to academic and student success (i.e. international study, student organizations, and internships – among others).

The Academic Advisor will either coordinate or team-teach personal and professional identity development courses to undergraduate students each semester. Our team has adopted developmental and appreciative approaches to academic advising. However, our interactions with
students may be more transactional during peak registration advising seasons when our traffic increases. The Academic Advisor will support various efforts in the Office of Undergraduate Programs as needed (including orientation, welcome week, commencement, etc.).

We seek an Academic Advisor that can champion a culture of belonging.

Opportunities for hybrid work are possible in this position at the conclusion of the individual’s onboarding and training period.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, adult/higher education, business, or related field.
  • Degrees must be received from accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience in academic advising at the college level.
  • Strong communication skills: oral, written, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and ethics of undergraduate advising.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a various array of personalities under pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with students at varying developmental stages in a confidential environment.
  • Appreciation for various perspectives, identities, backgrounds, ages and educational goals of current undergraduate students.
  • Comfortable speaking to large groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with successfully serving students in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience teaching courses to incoming first-year, off-campus transfer, and CODA (Change of Degree Application), students.
  • Evidence of effective presentations delivered in a large-group environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading student organizations.
  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of student traffic, especially during peak seasons.
