The National Account Manager plays an integral role in helping Lilly become our customers’ preferred company by demonstrating market-leading knowledge, delivering profitable market access solutions, and providing exceptional customer service. The complex, rapidly changing healthcare environment requires the National Account Manager to be a passionate, resilient, agile leader and learner who’s accountable and approachable as he/she proactively leads efforts to manage the business while maintaining and growing deal profitability. Analytical skills, attention to detail and strong communication skills are critical in developing and managing trusting relationships with both internal and external customers. The ideal candidate is honorable, self-motivated and stress tolerant, with demonstrated skills in collaboration/teamwork, customer service, influence, negotiation, compliance, judgment, time management, process improvement, sales, strategic planning and building trust.


The NAM on the CVS Health team will play a critical
in gaining and maintaining profitable formulary access and reimbursement for Lilly products. The NAM will play a leadership role in account strategy and execution, including stakeholder management, across a broad range of customers aligned to the current and future portfolio. Specific account assignments are subject to change over time as business dynamics dictate and/or business priorities changes.


Job Responsibilities

o Demonstrate knowledge of Lilly’s and s LVA’s vision, mission, business strategies/goals, products, processes and compliance requirements. Know how to access all resources available to develop knowledge and drive business results. Understand Lilly’s brand-specific contracting strategies and financial governance procedures.

o Demonstrate deep understanding of broad healthcare and competitive business trends, regulatory and legal requirements and their impact on customers. Know customers and what they value.

o Continuously seek opportunities to improve Lilly’s people, systems and processes. Identify, test, measure, conduct after-action reviews and share key learnings. Demonstrate essential traits such as professionalism, the ability to build trusting relationships, the ability to communicate in a compelling manner and active learning.

o Strategize with Lilly stakeholders to prioritize customer opportunities and prepare to blunt potential areas of concern. Build enduring relationships with a broad range of customers and stakeholders aligned with the current and future portfolio – bringing Lilly to the customer and the customer to Lilly.

o Manage the Lilly enterprise-wide relationship with the identified accounts/segments. Use deep customer insights and analytics to develop and implement strategic customer account plans aligned with brand strategies.

o Collaborate and engage with a wide array of Lilly stakeholders to manage planned and unplanned market events.

o Engage customers by ensuring every interaction has significance. Anticipate needs, identify opportunities and proactively conduct “crucial conversations” when necessary.

o Continuously analyze market dynamics and customer data to identify profitable access opportunities. Collaborate with others on business case development, securing governance approvals and executing negotiation strategies.

o Build and implement plans to maximize pull-through results. Monitor contract performance and take action to improve profitability as needed.

o Verify rebate eligibility on a plan-by-plan or client-by-client basis for every product under contract.

Basic Qualifications

o Bachelor's degree that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving (e.g., MBA, Engineering, Finance, Legal)

o 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated payer knowledge

o Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is required

o Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

Additional Preferences

o Previous experience with demonstrated results negotiating with Organized Customer Groups (e.g., National Account Manager or Market Manager)

o PBM account knowledge or experience

o In-depth understanding of brand and managed healthcare customer segment strategies

o Broad knowledge of the healthcare landscape

o Experience with and working knowledge of competitive interventions in the healthcare marketplace

o Demonstrated time-management, decision-making and negotiation skills

o Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills, including cross-functional teamwork skills and the ability to influence

o Demonstrated sales and strategic planning skills

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $150,000 to $253,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities). Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above. Further, Lilly reserves the right to amend, modify, or terminate its compensation and benefit programs in its sole discretion and Lilly’s compensation practices and guidelines will apply regarding the details of any promotion or transfer of Lilly employees.

Additional Information

Travel Percentage: Variable. Averages ~30%. Must be able to accommodate work schedule and travel as business needs dictate (e.g., consecutive 4 weeks of travel followed by weeks without travel, night and weekend meetings/calls).
