Essential Accountant Functions:
- Oversee accounting department operations of the Duluth Bethel Society.
- Semi-monthly review employee time sheets, calculate wages, and prepare payroll checks for employees. Additionally, maintain and pay payroll taxes in a timely fashion.
- Review invoices for appropriateness and department approval and pay vendors.
- Review sales invoices and analyze the accounts receivable balances.
- Manage the cash balance through the timing of receipts and disbursements to benefit the organization.
- Annually assist departments in preparing the budget, by creating reports based on current year's information and projecting future costs. Review the budget information and report that information to the departments and Executive Director.
- Prepare financial statements monthly for the organization and, as a member of the Finance Committee, present those statements with the underlying assumptions and detail.
- Coordinate and plan the annual audit in accordance with generally acceptable accounting, tax and audit standards, along with the auditors who prepare the annual audited financial statements, tax return, W-2's including filing with the IRS.
- Work with Human Resources and third party administrator the reconciliation of retirement contributions and making authorized deposits including HSA.
- Assist with governmental contracts by providing financial information, and maintain accurate records for the reporting of grants.
- Record and maintain fixed assets schedules and the capital budget. Ensure insurance is in place to promote good business practices.
- Continually assess the internal and cost controls to protect the resources of the organization.
- Professionally represent the Bethel at all times.
Other requirements:
- Minimum of an AA degree, Bachelor's degree preferred in accounting or business management.
- Minimum five years experience in financial management.
- Experience with computer accounting software (Great Plains Dynamics preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High degree of honesty and integrity.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Comply with a criminal background investigation.
