About the Department
The Division of Enrollment Management and Services (EMAS) is dedicated to successfully recruiting, retaining, supporting and graduating students as efficiently and effectively as possible in alignment with the goals set forth by the university’s strategic plan.
The mission of the division is to provide critical services to students, parents and visitors to NC State University throughout the student lifecycle, from identifying prospective students through graduation and beyond. EMAS offices and units are at the intersection of vital academic services that can positively impact student outcomes, reduce time to degree, promote awareness of NC State’s brand beyond North Carolina, and improve institutional effectiveness. EMAS utilizes a collaborative and integrated approach to student success, pursuing organizational excellence, and creating strategic partnerships to engage our community both locally and globally.
EMAS is comprised of undergraduate admissions, scholarships and financial aid, registration and records, enrollment systems and operations, communications, marketing, and outreach, Community College Collaboration (C3), Goodnight Scholars Program, summer sessions, parents and families services, E. Carroll Joyner Visitor and Transfer Center, Student Services Center and pre-college programs. The division has more than 100 full-time employees supporting all aspects of enrollment, including more than 100 student University Ambassadors helping to fulfill the mission of EMAS.
Essential Job Duties
The position serves as
Accountant for the Division of Enrollment Management and Services supporting a broad range of financial activities. The
Accountant will be responsible for ensuring a variety of accounting transactions such as account reconciliations, analyzing data, and monitoring financial transactions to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. The incumbent will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information, perform complex professional and technical accounting functions, meet required deadlines, create financial reports to meet operational needs, provide consultative services to staff in resolving accounting problems, and apply policies, procedures, and accounting principles to financial activities connected to a diverse set of funding sources. The work performed requires a variety of accounting and budgeting functions as well as considerable knowledge of the State of North Carolina, Federal, and University rules and regulations.
Duties include:
Divisional Reconciliation and Reporting
Works with the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Services to conduct ongoing financial management responsibilities including student aid and departmental reconciliations/reports, non-negotiated NC State refund check processing, and student sponsorship activities.
Student Aid Programs
Student Work Programs – Based on federal, state, and external allocations and student work patterns, determine the annual amount of employment-related funds to award to students. Monitor expenditures in bi-weekly payrolls to assure that the university does not overspend in the programs and reallocate salary expenditures to departments when over-awards or incorrect payroll entries are present. Assure that payroll expenditures are always in balance with the student information system records and provide continuous related HR support to campus and external work partners.
University Short-Term Loan Program – Responsible for entering and maintaining short-term loan charges in PeopleSoft. To achieve this task, it is necessary to produce and provide detailed reports of short-term loan disbursements and receivables, update outstanding short-term loan information, and monitor an aging schedule of outstanding short-term loan balances.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and customer service skills with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals at all levels within the College as well as other NC State central offices;
- Highly organized with the ability to effectively handle a large volume of work with frequent interruptions and manage competing priorities and shifting requirements with efficiency;
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of autonomy, accuracy, efficiency, and timelessness;
- Ability to analyze activities and recommend process/internal control improvements;
- Extensive knowledge of (or ability to rapidly assimilate and retain) State and University fiscal and administrative policies, procedures, and practices and ability to appropriately analyze, interpret, and apply business policies and procedures;
- Proven ability to implement and support internal audit controls;
- Knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and government accounting methods, procedures, and practices;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Software, especially Word and Excel, or similar software.
