Dropout Prevention Coordinator
Position
REPORTS TO: Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Provides cases management and dropout prevention services to students identified
through the school Intervention and Referral Services program as being at risk for not
graduating or dropping out.
2) Provides case management and dropout prevention services to students involved with
the juvenile justice system and serves as liaison for identified students to law
enforcement, courts, and probation department.
3) Provides case management to students and dropout prevention services to students
returning from alternative educational placements to assist in their transition back to the
regular school settings
4) Collects, interprets and uses student attendance, academic, behavioral, and related
social emotional related data to develop in collaboration with school staff an
individualized intervention plan for each identified student with strategies for addressing
remediation of indicators that put student at risk of not graduating or being a dropout.
5) Shares student individualized intervention plan with school staff, implements, monitors,
and evaluates, and adjusts plan to ensure student success
6) Each year by a designated date develops and submits to building administrators, the
Division of Operations, and Educational Support Services and Parent Relations a list of
all students that are credit deficient and at risk for dropping out. Each year by a
designated date identifies students who are no shows and submits report to building
administrator, the Division of Operations, and Educational Support Services, and Parent
Relations.
7) Provides follow-up contacts to all students within ten days of their dropping out and
again 30days, 90 days, and one year later for the purpose of discussing re-engagement
opportunities.
8) Collaborates with school staff to address alternative educational placement opportunities
for students unable to continue in the regular school setting.
9) Participates on the school I&RS team and serves as case manager for those students in
the juvenile justice system and those at-risk for dropping out that are referred by the
I&RS team.
10) Actively collaborates with community agencies to coordinate, identify, and process,
referrals for the provision of appropriate educational, social, and other support services
for students at risk of dropping out or who are involved with the Juvenile Justice system.

11) Monitors the school performance of students on case load in terms of attendance,
behavior, academic performance and provides monthly feedback on student progress to
building administrator and others as requested.
12) Contacts and communicates directly with parents/guardians on a regular basis to ensure
parent awareness of and involvement in their child’s school performance and to secure
parent support.
13) Delivers a wide range of direct parent activities and services including but not limited to
in-service, training, and workshop sessions related to dropout prevention strategies.
14) Promotes, supports, and encourages both parent and student participation in school
activities and services.
15) Maintains accurate data, records, and case management files to document all activities
conducted and services provided.
16) Assist students in increasing their self-esteem, critical thinking and communication skills
17) Researches model programs and funding opportunities for dropout prevention and
makes recommendations to building administrators.
18) Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with
students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school
19) Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive climate that encourages student
responsibility, using positive motivation, clear routines, and effective management
techniques.
20) Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents,
and colleagues
21) Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe
conditions, following established procedures
22) Complete, in a timely fashion, all records and reports as required by law and regulation
or requested by the Principal or central office departments or administrators.
23) Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising
professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
24) Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school
personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
25) Adhere to New Jersey School Law, State Board of Education rules and regulations,
Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and
contractual obligations
26) Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as
assigned by Administration

c) Contacts parents/guardians by telephone or email, when necessary
d) Listens and responds to the concerns of parents/guardians
e) Interprets educational documents to parents/guardians
3. With Staff
a) Works cooperatively and enthusiastically with other staff and the administration in
achieving the district’s educational goals
b) Exhibits professional and ethical attitudes and behaviors toward colleagues

QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities listed above
2) Must hold NJDOE Teaching or Educational Services Certification with endorsement as a
School Counselor, School Social Worker, Student Assistance Coordinator, or School
Psychologist.
3) Minimum of two years as a certified, full-time member of the professional staff in an
educational or social service setting ..
4) Demonstrated ability to interface with traditional and non-traditional child-advocate
agencies, institutions and organizations
5) Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff
and community groups and organizations
6) Required criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United States
7) All applicants must meet NJ Residency requirements as per “New Jersey First Act,” ,
N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)
