Job Classification: Adjunct Faculty - Teaching. This posting may result in up to 3 adjunct faculty hires who will be eligible to teach the following section types: Day, Evening, BYU Online, Salt Lake Center, and/or Independent Study University.

Required Degree: MA in English, MFA in Creative Writing, or master's degree is comparable field. Required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: College-level English literature course instruction.
Duties/Expectations: Teach ENGL 302: Writing with Style
Course description is available in the BYU Course Catalog. Course has required learning outcomes and recommended assignments as set by the English Department.
Instructor Availability: Applicants must be available to teach in-person classes on the BYU Provo campus. Instructors are expected to hold at least three office hours each week, share an office with up to two additional adjunct faculty, and must be responsive to student inquiries in a timely manner. Office hours may be held in person and/or online. Instructors are required to reside in the state of Utah.
Training and Meetings: Adjunct faculty may be required to attend training prior to the start of teaching assignment, depending on prior teaching experience and familiarity with BYU's writing program. Training for new courses is available annually. Additional employee training may be offered periodically (EEO, accessibility, LMS, etc.). Adjunct faculty do not attend regular faculty meetings and are not required to participate in research or citizenship responsibilities. However, adjunct faculty are invited to participate in ad hoc workshops and events as coordinated by the English Department's adjunct faculty liaison.
Performance Reviews: Adjunct faculty receive performance reviews annually, which may include the following: review of student ratings and course materials, teaching observations, and a self-assessment. In addition, course coordinators may review course materials and recommend changes to align with department standards. Syllabi and student work may be used for program assessment purposes.
Teaching Load and Future Employment Opportunities: In the BYU English Department, adjunct faculty may teach up to three courses/semester and/or one course/spring-summer, depending on other BYU concurrent employment as well as department need. Adjunct writing faculty are hired on a semester-to-semester basis. If an adjunct faculty member has a teaching gap of 11 or more consecutive months within the English Department, they must formally reapply and receive clearance to be eligible for future teaching contracts.

- BYU ENGL courses you are trained to teach. You may also include ENGL courses you are interested in training to teach.
- Number of courses (up to three) you prefer to teach each semester.
- Availability, including fall/winter semesters, spring/summer terms, days of the week, and general times (morning, afternoon, evening. etc.).
