The Alaska Department of Administration, Division of Motor Vehicles is recruiting for an Administrative Officer 1 located in Anchorage!

What you will be doing:


The Admin Officer 1's (AO1) main responsibility is to supervise the staff in the Administrate and Financial Service (AFS) section of the DMV. This position ensures effective and efficient implementation of the programs and projects that are managed by AFS by anticipating needs, being resourceful, setting and accomplishing goals.

The AO1 position requires a strong ability to resolve problems; make decisions using sound judgment, be resourceful and strategic; can clearly communicate through written and verbal word; and has personal responsibility in the application of a substantial body of knowledge principles, concepts, and practices of administrative support.

This position assists the Administrative Officer 2 (AO2) in analyzing the divisions’ organizational structure, preparation of budget forecasts, and makes recommendations for revisions to the divisions’ administrative policies, and procedures.

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need to possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
  • Must be experienced with using Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Word, and Outlook).
  • Have strong organizational skills with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Have a solid knowledge of office procedures and demonstrate accuracy and completeness.
  • Must be able to work in a leadership role, overseeing day-to-day progress and goals of employees
  • must have the ability to analyze projects, programs, and plans to verify validity, accuracy, and possible ways to implement efficiencies.
Special Note
  • This position requires the use of Alaska License and Vehicle Information Network (ALVIN), which includes passing a background investigation. Fingerprinting will be conducted.
  • It is desired that the selected candidate is able to process in excel proficiently and be able to work at a computer for a full shift on a daily basis.
  • It is desired that the selected candidate has prior management experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience providing administrative support to a business or organization, of which at least two years were as an Administrative Assistant 2, Accounting Technician 2, Human Resource Technician 2, Procurement Specialist 1, or similar or higher level administrative classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Substitutions:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration, finance, banking, accounting, industrial relations, marketing, human resource management, logistics and supply chain management, or a similar business field will substitute for the required experience.

Post-secondary education from an accredited college in any field will substitute for the two years of non-specific administrative support experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equals one month).
