The Advanced Design Tools (ADT) team is a software organization which develops and maintains a portfolio of engineering tools for GE Aviation (commercial and military divisions). This portfolio covers a wide range of applications, including scientific simulation, modeling, visualization. As a member of ADT, you will develop and support new and existing engineering design tools. The primary areas of effort are:
- Support the ADT team of developers and users with their tool builds, deployment, and support of the multiple platforms the tools are utilized.
- Daily support the engineering designer’s use of GE’s physics-based engineering software tool suite.
- Support the tools amidst changes of computing environment, OS upgrades, compiler updates, and distribution to global sites for GE world-wide use.
- Get to know the users and build a reputation of tool support with them.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Architect/deployment/support of the ADT tool suites, globally, for GE Power, Aviation, and Baker-Hughes; spanning multiple countries including US, Italy, France, Poland, India, and Mexico.
- Support military and commercial tool applications.
- Support user community by addressing engineering tool issues (configuration, usage, and bugfixes)
- Collaborate with users to identify issue, research problem, propose solutions, and make corrections to tools and/or distribution environment.
- Support, define and manage our tool build process for improving our tool support.
- Provide timely communications on significant issues.
- Work with internal IT teams to improve performance/reliability of the design tool environment and the distribution process.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or one of the “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in programming commercial applications with Bash, C/C++, Matlab, Python, and/or Fortran.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering and/or IT/programming
- Strong skills in tool development and multiple programming languages.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux (Redhat) OS as it pertains to tool/file permission and execution.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong cross-functional (IT/Engineering), teaming, and communication skills.
- Location where work needs to be performed is Cincinnati, OH
- Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder
Desired Characteristics:
- Preferred experience in programming/debugging with Bash, C/C++, Matlab, Python, and/or Fortran
- Familiarity with SVN, Git/Github systems
- Knowledge of turbomachinery fundamentals.
- Knowledge of basic, fundamental numerical methods in linear algebra and numerical analysis.
- Experience with CIFS and NTFS permission provisioning
