Job description
Overview
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual to take on an advanced technology development role in the areas of embedded software and systems engineering for a multitude of motion control products including, but not limited to, electric power steering and steer-by-wire. The candidate would be expected to work on the entire lifecycle of motion control systems and products, starting from customer requirements, to systems and software design and implementation through to manufacturing. The role will also involve significant innovation that supports enhancing engineering efficiency in existing product lines as well as expansion of Nexteer’s portfolio into new product lines. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating cross-functional projects with multiple technical groups within the organization, support the organization for all areas of motion control systems and embedded software development.
Description
- Responsible for software architecture planning, design, implementation for motion control systems (including electric power steering).
- Analysis of customer, systems and safety requirements to derive and develop software architecture and software component requirements for different motion control systems.
- Ensuring software compliance with industry standards and conventions including AUTOSAR, Automotive SPICE, ISO 26262
- Designing, documenting and implementing structured, efficient and re-usable software from derived requirements.
- Participating in and leading design reviews for software components and architecture.
- Creating and optimizing software development processes to enhance engineering efficiency.
- Incorporating and ensuring requirements traceability in embedded software for different motion control products.
- Developing and implementing software verification plans at different levels of product integration.
- Developing embedded systems and software requirements for new motion control products developed internally via innovation projects.
- Leading technology development activities in motion control systems and software.
- Developing interactive graphical user interface tools for design, analysis and verification of software algorithms.
- Interfacing with customers and suppliers to understand latest commercially available products and components and influence designs to allow seamless integration into existing product lines.
- Reviewing component datasheets for various parts of the controller hardware including microcontroller, gate drivers, power supplies, switching devices etc.
Job Requirements
Required Skills
- Extensive academic training and practical experience in embedded software development.
- Experience in embedded software development and implementation.
- General competency in all core fields (mechanical, electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software).
- Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
- Proven ability to create new products, algorithms, and systems through innovation.
- Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools.
- Excellent problem definition and solving techniques.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good organization and documentation abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to look at computer screen/monitor for extended periods of time.
Preferred Skills
- Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension, traction/propulsion).
- Experience in embedded software development with AUTOSAR architecture.
- Skilled at different programming and scripting languages including C, C++, Matlab, VBA.
- Experience with cross compilers and cross assemblers.
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art software development tools such as Vector.
- Experience with different embedded hardware including microcontrollers, digital signal processors, gate drivers etc.
- Familiarity with software requirements, architecture and configuration management tools such as IBM Synergy, IBM DOORS etc.
- Experience with various automotive communication protocols including CAN and FlexRay.
- Familiarity with safety standards such as ISO 26262.
- Familiarity with process assessment standards such as Automotive SPICE.
- Understanding of automotive cyber security methodologies.
- Background in advanced areas including Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things.
Education
Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering.
