We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual who is ready to take on a technology development and innovation role. The candidate should possess good attention to detail, good mentorship ability, be creative, and possess good time management skills. This position is for the advanced systems and software engineering organization and involves modeling, simulation, analysis and verification, of motion control systems, and enforcing the technology development process for various technical projects from research through to production implementation. This position allows the candidate to assist in advancing the motor control technology roadmap that both supports the existing Nexteer product line and also enables expansion for the next generation products. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating cross-functional projects with multiple technical groups within the organization, support the organization for all areas of motor control development and develop new motion control system algorithms individually.

Description

• Responsible for analysis, modeling and design of control systems involved in motion control products.
• Design and optimize simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down. Understand and create system and subsystem specifications.
• Coordinating technical projects pertaining to electric drive systems (motor control and power electronics) with cross-organizational teams.
• Enforcing the technology development process for technical projects from research through to production implementation.
• Calibration, testing and validation of motion control system requirements as well as diagnosing and correcting deficiencies in designs and prototypes.
• Effectively integrates all aspects of a design through the use of multi-disciplinary engineering.
• Stays abreast of new technology and recent developments and trends in the research and academic arena related to motion control technologies, including servomechanisms, electric motor drives and power converter control systems.
• Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (mechatronic) systems.
• Assists in maintaining cost controls through development of cost optimal system designs and architectures.

Job Requirements

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of control systems and signal processing theory.
• Experience with design and analysis of modern motion control systems, including but not limited to, servomechanisms, electric motor drives and power converter control systems.
• General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetics, mechanical, computer hardware and software).
• Strong analytical (mathematical) background in modeling of physical systems including mechanical systems, electrical machines, power converters and various sensing subsystems.
• Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
• Proven ability to create new products, algorithms, and systems through innovation.
• General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software).
• Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink) is required.
• Excellent problem definition and solving techniques.
• Good organization and documentation abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
• Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to look at computer screen/monitor for extended periods of time.

Preferred Skills

• Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension, traction/propulsion).

Education

(Required) Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

(Preferred) Emphasis on Controls Engineering, Motion Control System or Mechatronics.
