Organizational Summary:

Student Health Services (SHS) is an ambulatory-care facility providing primary health care to USF students. This includes physicals, immunizations, antigen clinic, women's health clinic, assessment and treatment of acute and chronic health illness, injury assessment and care and minor procedures. SHS is staffed by MDs, ARNP's, and PA's and clinically supported by RNs, LPNs, MAs and administrative staff. This unit is part of the Division of Student Affairs. There are approximately 70 employees supporting approximately 30,000 visits annually.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision and in accordance with standardized procedures, a Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing physical examinations and treating common episodic and chronic health care problems, counseling patients and families, monitoring patient progress, assisting with medical research projects. Works in collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient.

Responsibilities:

Under general supervision and in accordance with standardized ARNP protocol, responsible for providing competent, responsible, ethical, outpatient medical care, examinations/diagnoses and treatment/therapy, and/or minor surgical procedures to patients eligible for services at USF Student Health Services. Prepares medical records and correspondence relating to patient care. Refers patients for secondary and/or tertiary care as needed with appropriate and timely follow up of findings and tests.

Under ARNP protocol, provides health counseling and education concerning the diagnosis and treatment of patient's conditions, appropriate preventative measures and use of the health care system.

Provides adequate and timely transfer of information to other health care professionals. Consults with relatives of student patients when appropriate and authorized. Assists with coordination of patient care by referral mechanisms as needed.

Counsels and educates patients in health promotion, prevention and early detection. Participates in orientation and staff development programs for personnel assisting with patient care, assists in training of physician's assistants or nursing students through demonstration, supervision and evaluation of ongoing activities.

Participates in quality improvement activities including but not limited to- peer reviews, case studies, clinical quality studies, clinical guidelines, etc.

Participates in continuing medical education in order to maintain current competence and remain eligible for re-licensure biannually. Responsible for maintaining Florida ARNP license.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in primary care with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a primary care setting. College health experience.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position may require rotating work schedule to include on-call.
