Job description

Are you an experienced, avid adventurer who is ready to share their knowledge and love of the outdoors with a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts? A summer job with Eagle's Nest Camp and Hante Adventures will be one of the most fulfilling and fun experiences of your life!

We are looking for passionate individuals to lead meaningful excursions for campers and young adults. Hante Adventure Trip Instructors lead 2-3 week excursions across the globe, ranging from the scenic Ozarks in the highlands of Arkansas to the renowned Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. From the moment our young adventurers arrive at their trip's meeting place until their departure back home, Hante Adventure Trip Instructors serve as the end-to-end caregivers and role-models for everyone on their excursion. Additionally, Eagle's Nest Camp offers Added Adventures to campers who are not yet old enough to participate in multi-week trips. Based out of our Pisgah Forest location, Added Adventure Trip Leaders teach their participants the fundamentals of backpacking, canoeing, camping, and ecology at Eagle's Nest Camp before setting out on a week-long expedition into areas nearby. (If you're interested in a more traditional summer camp job, you can learn about other opportunities at Eagle's Nest Camp here.)

Regardless of which trip you lead, you will be responsible for the health and well-being of every member of your adventure, with the potential of serving as an unforgettable role model beyond the trip itself. In addition to caring for each participant and fostering a positive group experience, our Trip Instructor and Leaders teach the skills necessary to travel confidently in new environments. These skills can range in activity (backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing) and basic outdoor living (cooking, fire-building, Leave No Trace principles, etc) depending on each trip and the Instructors' experience/skill level. These skills are taught using a scaffold approach in order for participants to function on their own by the end of their trip, with the goal of building their confidence to pursue similarly new experiences in the future. Further, Instructors and Leaders are responsible for adhering to the details of their trip and navigating transportation to and from different locations, as laid out in the initial itinerary; in this way, a clean driving record is a prerequisite for this position. Instructors and Leaders will be engaged with their participants through the trip's entirety, and will be expected to handle medical issues to the extent of your certification and ability. To be fully prepared for any trip, every Trip Leader will participate in a "pre-summer" clinic and orientation, in addition to acquiring any certifications necessary to lead certain activities; these certifications can potentially be obtained during our pre-summer clinics as well.

Eagle's Nest and Hante Adventures seek instructors who have a joy for living and working in the outdoors and the selflessness necessary to share those passions with all young people. We honor the diverse perspectives our counselors and staff bring to our community, and we encourage applicants who will contribute to the racial, ethnic, religious, political, or geographic diversity of our amazing staff.

To apply: please complete this short application. You can apply through Indeed or by answering the questions. Once we receive it you'll be invited to schedule a Zoom interview and informational chat with Paige, the Camp Director, and with other members of the leadership staff. The interviews are fun opportunities for us to get to know each other.

We are looking forward to learning about you and telling you more about Eagle's Nest and Hante Adventures. If you have questions, please contact our Camp Director, Paige, at paige@enf.org and our Assistant Camp Director - Hante and Outdoor Programs, Ed, at ed@enf.org.
