Ford is redefining how it will build a better world for the future by creating a culture and opportunities where employees will capitalize on Ford’s strength and excellence in developing and the most advanced CAE and physical test methods to achieve design and development of the most iconic products. This is critical to the objective of creating the future of world-class connected BEVs and continued advancement of efficient ICE vehicles. Ford is transforming our global automotive business to scale EVs, strengthen operations, and unlock value through advanced products developed with the most advanced aerodynamic tools and methods in the industry. We will deliver at the speed of a startup, with the deep expertise of high-volume production. This is the opportunity to have a major impact on a growing Vehicle Engineering (VE) organization within Fords primary product development group called the Ford Industrial Platform (IP).
The IP and VE Aerodynamics teams are inspired by the success of our first venture into Battery Electric Vehicles the development the Mustang Mach-E SUV and F-150 Lightning™ pickup, and the recognition of the criticality of Aerodynamics in our venture to develop the most efficient vehicles in the world with the most advanced tools and efficient engineering team.
We are building a team of the world’s best aerodynamicists, and test engineers who will develop the most advanced tools and methods in CFD, Wind Tunnel Testing and property development. This team will be turned loose to create insanely great tools, methods and facilities to create insanely great vehicles. This is a critical path for us to deliver over 50% of our total sales in BEV vehicles by 2030. These changes in our business will allow us the greatest opportunity to create value, serve customers and develop advanced technologies since Henry Ford scaled the Model T.
The minimum requirements we seek:
- MS in Aerodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field inclusive of Fluid Dynamics or Thermodynamics.
- 5+ years of experience with CFD methods development
- 5+ years of experience with wind tunnel testing methods development, aerodynamic data analysis and/or aerodynamic design development.
- Self-directed, confident and resilient individual with excellent personal communication skills.
- Excellent work planning, issue resolution skills
Our preferred requirements:
- PhD in aerospace/aeronautical engineering
- Knowledge of experimental aerodynamics methodologies
- Experience in a high volume, high utilization environment
- Experience with F1 or other racing aerodynamic development techniques
- Excellent understanding of fluid dynamics, including boundary layer theory, attached and separated flows, vortex behaviors and other flow phenomena.
- Familiarity with geometry creation, simplification, and data management within CAD software, preferably CATIA.
- A track record of success with interpersonal and leadership skills in challenging, cross-functional environments.
As the Aerodynamics Attribute Program Supervisor, you will be responsible for establishing a strategic direction to achieving the company objectives by:
- Growing and developing a Program Section with talents and motivated team, supporting world-class global Aerodynamics organization strategy
- Leading the team of aerodynamicists, aeroacoustics CFD engineers, test engineers, modeling engineers, and CFD engineers to delivery outstanding aerodynamic performance across the Ford portfolio.
- Leading and delivering program drag and lift predictions, roadmaps and targets
- Leading program wind tunnel tests plan and correlation, supporting and enabling team constructing models and conducting physical tests
- Managing Aero program team CFD simulations to determine aerodynamic drag and lift performance of studio themes and develop recommendations for improvements that achieve targets.
- Leading the interface between Aero program and key areas. Proactively guide design, attribute and functional engineers to enable meeting aero targets.
- Leading Aero program governance between CFD/Tests results and report outs, presentations to support program teams, fuel economy teams, and EPA?, and program gateways, achieving Aero program deliverables on time.
- Day to Day resource planning (Personnel, facilities, properties) to support Aero program requirements
- Work Closely with Program teams, Vehicle Engineering and Model-E Aerodynamics Product Implementation Manager to align priorities and product objectives
- Ability to work flexible hours due to occasional 2nd shift testing in wind tunnel.
