Animal Care Attendant - SO5 General Practice

We are seeking a mission oriented Animal Attendant to join our team at Cornell's Small Animal Community Practice (SACP) which is a state-of-the-art, stand-alone primary care facility offering preventative medicine, radiology, surgery and dentistry services to dogs and cats. Our veterinary students manage cases primarily, fully supported by expert staff and veterinarians.
As an Animal Attendant, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the hallways and other assigned floors, dust mopping and mopping daily, as well as stripping, waxing and polishing as needed, and as time allows.
- Clean and disinfect all areas throughout shift, including exam rooms between clients, kennel areas along with removal and disposal of trash and bio hazardous wastes, along with feces, urine, vomit, and other body fluids. Restock wards, treatment areas and workrooms with appropriate supplies to prepare for the next patient.
- Under the supervision of a licensed veterinary technician (LVT), assist with a variety of duties associated with patient care and maintenance of the SACP, like assisting the veterinarians and LVTs with restraint of animals for medical procedures, providing animals with a clean and comfortable environment, which includes cleaning, disinfecting cages and all other areas as assigned. Walk patients outside and collect urine/fecal samples as needed. Record fecal/urine discharges, vomiting, appetite characteristics and overall appearance of the patient on treatment sheets.

**The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will be:
Monday: 9am - 4:30pm
Tuesday: 8am - 6pm
Wednesday: 9am - 4:30pm
Thursday: 8am - 6pm
Friday: 8am - 2pm
Schedules may vary based on hospital needs and will include weekend and holiday shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- HS Diploma with at least 6 months prior experience, including direct experience with companion animal handling in a veterinary facility using various holding techniques, and in housekeeping/custodial/disinfection work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of basic infection control practices and the ability to adhere to and enforce those practices, utilizing various disinfectants and proper procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful, but not required.
- Rabies immunizations will be required and the department covers the cost.
