The Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS) is now hiring Full-Time & Part-Time Direct Service Advocates (DSAs)!

Primary responsibilities:

• Provide a safe, secure, and efficient facility 24-hours a day.
• Ensure guest compliance with LCS rules and regulations.
• Support and encourage guest participation in services to successfully move into stable, permanent housing.

Available schedules as of 5.15.2023:

• FT Day DSA #3 (Sat-Wed 8a-4p)
• FT Evening DSA #2 (Fri-Mon 4p-12a plus 1 'float')
• FT Overnight DSA #1 (Sun-Thurs 12a-8a)
• PT Overnight DSA #7 (Sat-Mon 12a-8a)
• Relief DSA (part-time, no set schedule. must pick up and work at least 2 open shifts per month)
• opportunities for overtime by picking up open shifts as they're available

Preferred qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prefer at least two (2) years of community-based social services experience or other related experience with marginalized populations (i.e., the economically disadvantaged; racial and ethnic minorities; the uninsured, low-income children; the elderly; the homeless; those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); those with other chronic health conditions, including severe mental illness and substance abuse disorders; individuals with physical or developmental disabilities; veterans; and those who identify as LGBTQIA+).
• Ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to create and maintain a culturally sensitive, low-barrier, trauma-informed, harm-reductive, and appropriate environment through communication and interaction that demonstrates respect for diversity while promoting the philosophy of trauma-informed care in all interactions with clients, staff, volunteers, and community members.

COVID-19 considerations:
Staff are encouraged to be fully vaccinated, if they so choose.
Staff and shelter guests are encouraged to wear masks inside of the building, if they so choose.
LCS regularly sanitizes all high-traffic and communal spaces inside the building.
