Job description
Anticipated School Psychologist opening at Brookline High School. The school psychologist administers psychological diagnostic tests; has comprehensive, insightful diagnostic skills, interprets a variety of informal and formal special education assessments, is knowledge of specific approaches and tools to help students, teachers and families better deal with all factors which interfere with the learning process, has experience working collaboratively to address student needs, writes IEPs and collaborates in IEP meetings, has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child development, basic background in neuropsychology a plus, a strong understanding of when further evaluations may be beneficial, has the ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies to support student learning, has an appreciation for students from diverse family and socioeconomic situations, strong written and verbal communication skills, an open-mind, sense of humor and the ability to calmly approach stressful situations.
Psychologist duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Student assessment including administration of psychological evaluations of cognitive skills, attention, memory, social-emotional functioning and student observation
- Responsibilities may include providing direct and consultative clinical support for specialized programs at Brookline High School
- Counseling groups (social skills, friendship, etc.) and individual counseling
- Participation in special education Team meetings, school mental health, crisis response team and/or counseling team
- Consultation with school administration, team facilitators, BCBA, SLP, OT, PT, general ed. and special educators
- Involvement and consultation around behavioral interventions and plans
- Consultation to parents/guardians
Additional Duties:
- Attend department meetings
- Participate with colleagues as a contributing member of the school community and contribute to school effectiveness
- Be actively involved in professional development (i.e. courses, workshops and in-service training) in order to be current in new methods and approaches in special education as well as to expand knowledge of the general education curriculum for students receiving services
Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must have a current Mass. DESE School Psychologist license
