Apple’s Exploratory Design Group (XDG) has an opening for an exceptional and energetic mathematical scientist with excellent knowledge of engineering physics, to help develop a new generation of revolutionary technologies for future products. Working with an outstanding multi- disciplinary team, you will use your deep knowledge of mathematics, physics and engineering to analyze our hardest open problems, and create mathematical models, optimized algorithms and architecture concepts for new and emerging sensors, communication systems and devices.
Key Qualifications
- PhD in a mathematically-oriented field and 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Comfort and facility with mathematical proof, informal proof and intuitive arguments.
- Excellent theoretical foundation in engineering physics, especially Maxwell’s Equations.
- Fundamental understanding of signal processing, information theory and statistics.
- Significant expertise in computational imaging and image processing.
- Mathematical understanding of ordinary, partial and stochastic differential equations.
- Expertise in at least one modern general purpose scientific programming language.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and productively with technical peers.
- Skill in communicating effectively with management and experts in other fields.
- Enthusiasm for learning new fields and taking on new challenges.
- Interest in modern machine learning and data science.
- Ability to lead projects and manage a small team if necessary.
Description
With input from domain experts and support from an exceptional team, you will help conceive, analyze, model, optimize and evolve new and emerging concepts and devices for future Apple products, including biosensors and communication systems. You will use your unusually broad knowledge of mathematics, physics and engineering, plus your skill at mathematical modeling, to build deep, quantitative understanding of how complex devices interact with complex environments, and how to optimize those interactions. Resulting insights will drive hardware architectures, software architectures and overall project strategies. You will communicate plans and technical results through team meetings, written reports and presentations to wider teams or to management as appropriate. Like everyone on the team, you will almost certainly need to learn new things to reach our goals.
