DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:
Ballina Beverages are currently seeking candidates for an Electrical Instrumentation Apprenticeship for its manufacturing plant based in Ballina, Co. Mayo. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a fast-paced agile environment.
About the Program
The Apprenticeship Program is a minimum 4-year program combining work and learning and is run in conjunction with SOLAS – a state agency responsible for further education. The Apprenticeship program consists of seven phases: 4 on-the-job and 3 off-the-job.
- On-the-job training will take place on site in Ballina Beverages where the successful candidate will work with our highly skilled and experienced maintenance team to develop the skills required to maintain a broad range of mechanical production and utility equipment used in the Ballina facility. The candidate will be assigned to a mentor who is qualified to sign off on their progress throughout the seven phases.
- Off the job training is classroom based and is determined by SOLAS through their standards-based Apprenticeship Program where apprentice will be required to complete a portfolio & series of exams, both theory & practical.
The overall duration of this Apprenticeship is a minimum of 4 years provided all phases are successfully completed. A Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical Instrumentation is awarded on the successful completion of the program.
What you will do for us
- Work to health & safety requirements at all times.
- Learn and understand the operation of equipment in the plant including installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills on fixing and solving equipment issues including electrical, mechanical and instrumentation issues.
- Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on operations equipment.
- Drive equipment improvement and minimise downtime on equipment.
- Clear understanding of equipment performance measures.
- Capable of using a computerised maintenance management system to record all activity.
- Use Mathematics to solve technical or scientific problems.
- Interpret and understand technical drawings diagrams.
- Participate in an Agile methodology.
- Have ambition to learn new skills and competencies and the desire to develop these throughout the training programme.
Qualifications Requirements
The minimum requirement for entry into the proposed programme is as follows:
- Junior Certificate or approved equivalent with a minimum Grade C in five subjects which must include Mathematics.
- Leaving Certificate or approved equivalent with minimum Grade C in five subjects which must include Mathematics, Engineering, or a Science subject.
- Pass an Ishihara colour vision test.
- Be 18 years of age on July 1, 2021.
Skill Requirements
- Ability to work within all aspects of health & safety requirements.
- Aptitude for mechanical / electrical / instrumentation with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to solve problems and seek out improvement opportunities in partnership and under the supervision of an experienced Technician.
- Quality focused, well organized, and careful with practical tasks.
- Ability to use maths to solve technical or scientific problems with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently on one’s own initiative.
- Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
- An ambition to learn new skills and competencies and the desire to develop these throughout the training programme.
- Experience or learning of the principles of Operational Excellence and how they operate in a manufacturing environment.
