Job description
- Assist in resetting gallery spaces - building walls, patching and painting
- Assist with the hanging/installation/set up of exhibitions and de-installation, packing-up, and re-crating
- Work with artists and/or curators to install artwork following specifications
- Coordinate with the Exhibitions Manager to ensure the smooth handling of artwork and proper installation methods
- Installation of artworks including 2D works, sculpture, and AV - digital equipment
- Applying labels and wall graphics
- Adding, removing, and adjusting lighting for individual artworks
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of related experience but will train the right person
- Experience in handling 2D and 3D artworks, knowledge of fixings, hanging systems, packing/storage
- Awareness/understanding of various hanging techniques for 2-D artwork
- Basic knowledge of AV and digital equipment and installation
- Physical ability required in lifting/moving artworks
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Be comfortable using ladders up to 20 ft
- Ability to understand, follow and execute written and/or verbal instructions
- Flexibility in performing different tasks
- Must be self-disciplined and have the ability to work independent, as well as with a team

About this Organization:
Tufts University Art Galleries oversee the exhibition spaces in the Aidekman Arts Center in Medford, the galleries and public programs at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts in Boston, and Tufts University’s Permanent and Public Art Collection. We present up to four major exhibitions per semester, including one-person and group exhibitions, centered on contemporary topics. The Art Galleries install and maintain the Permanent and Public Art Collection throughout Tufts’s four campuses and work closely with faculty and students to develop curricular exhibitions for public spaces throughout the Medford and SMFA at Tufts campuses. Each spring in conjunction with commencement, our galleries in Medford and Boston showcase the thesis work of graduate and undergraduate SMFA at Tufts students.
