Reinhardt University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track position and will start August, 2023.


Primary duties include teaching 15 contact hours per semester, advising students, serving on faculty standing committees, University committees, and ad hoc task forces, working collegially with colleagues to develop academic curricula and enrichment activities, conducting research and assisting with academic program assessment, among other duties.


Qualifications:

A terminal degree in a biological discipline, but with preference for candidates who can contribute to courses in the areas of introductory biology, ecology, botany and environmental studies. The candidate must be able to teach a variety of foundational and upper-level electives in their area of expertise. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a record of effective university teaching, advising and contribution to knowledge in one’s academic discipline.

The University seeks an engaging teacher, service-leader, and effective scholar who will actively contribute to a stimulating educational environment where students have an opportunity to grow and learn in challenging academic programs.


Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Teaching 15 contact hours of course work in fall and spring terms;
  • Serving as academic advisor for an average of 25 students;
  • Serving the University through participation in program, academic school and faculty senate meetings, as well as through service on faculty and University- wide committees;
  • Assisting the school dean with assessment of student learning and developing strategies for educational improvement;
  • Growing and developing professionally through scholarship within the discipline and generally as a university teacher;
  • Contributing to the smooth and effective functioning of the University by following established policies and procedures;
  • Participating as an active citizen of the University community by attending University-wide ceremonies, academic events, and co-curricular events;
  • Responding to deadlines established by the VPAA, the Registrar, and the School Deans;
  • Working with the administrative offices to recruit and retain students;
  • Participating in faculty governance and shared governance of the University.
