Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparing and reviewing legal contracts, real estate agreements and closing documents related to capital projects.
- Tracks and organizes various types of contracts and agreements with public utilities, railroads, municipalities, public agencies and other third parties as required to carry out the work of Capital Programs projects
- Conducts research and analyzing title documents and legal descriptions of property
- Assists in drafting letters and other correspondence with third party stakeholders for major capital investment projects
- Coordinates and processes payments of invoices, purchase orders, and routing of agreements for approval
- Follows up with Risk Management, Procurement, Real Estate, Environmental and legal liaisons within and outside NJ TRANSIT on various tasks on behalf of Capital Programs to implement capital projects.
- Maintains hard copy files and electronic records and facilitates staff meetings
- Collaborates with Risk Management, Procurement, Real Estate, Environmental Sections and as a liaison for Contract & Claims with respect work for Capital Projects.
- Assists in the drafting, reviewing, and proofreading of agreements and memoranda relating to implementation of Capital Projects.
- Conduct legal research and legislative history regarding court opinions affecting transportation.
- Assists in drafting and negotiating agreements with public utilities to facilitate Capital Projects.
- Review Insurance requirements and indemnification agreements relating to Capital Projects.
- Assist in preparation of items to be presented to the Board of Directors relating to acquisitions and agreements for Capital Projects.
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Degree in related area and one (1) year of applied experience working with railroad, public construction, real estate, or other legal contracts and agreements.
- Paralegal skills, such as the ability to analyze and assist in reviewing complex contracts, statutes and regulations, including environmental and utility regulations, is desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft Office include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams is required. Strong verbal and written communication are required, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
