The Assistant Director of Nursing assists in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the Nursing Department. The ADON works in a cooperative relationship with the Director of Nursing. The ADON is responsible, under the guidance of the DON., for the daily functioning of the nursing department in accordance to the Federal and State regulations.

• Is knowledgeable and supportive of all jobs responsibilities of the DON (Director of Nursing), to accomplish objectives, which will assure the optimum delivery of quality nursing care.
  
• Under general supervision of the DON (Director of Nursing), has responsibility for maintaining high standards of professional and non-professional nursing services. Provides leadership to create an environment of new knowledge and services, which contribute, to quality nursing practice.
  
• Assumes responsibilities of Director of Nursing in his/her absence. Shares on call responsibilities.
  
• Assist in the development and implementation of new and/or revised nursing procedures and policies. Serves as a resource person and consultant for nursing care.
  
• Assist when needed in orientation, in-service and staff development programs.
  
• Serves on facility committees as assigned.

• Assists with staffing

• Assists in the development, supervision, and monitoring of the Quality Assurance Program, ensuring compliance.

• Willingly performs other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State. Associates Degree in Nursing required. Supervisory/management experience preferred. Gerontology experience required. CPR certified.
