The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Recruiting Communication.
About the Opportunity
The Assistant Director of Recruiting Communications position is in place to organize and execute the overall strategy of a prospective student athlete’s recruitment and communication plan for the coaching staff.
This position will be seen as an instrumental piece of building relationships with recruits, their families, and high-level influences within a prospective student athlete’s circle in order to create the best strategies to secure a commitment from the player. This will be a position that has a heavy influence in closing the deal when a player comes on campus for a visit.

What You'll Do
- Plan the weekly recruiting communication strategy with direction from the recruiting staff
- Execution of the recruiting communication plan, ensuring coaches have all relevant information needed to fulfill the duties required in the player acquisition process of a prospective student athlete
- Coordinate the input of all relevant recruiting communication feedback and notes into Catapult on a weekly basis (daily when coaches are on the road)
- Organize the letter writing campaign for recruits with the coaching staff
- Execution of Whistle Communication for select coaches
- Work with graphic departments on formulating unique graphic ideas for prospects
- Communicate with prospective student athletes when on campus and via FaceTime
- Report directly to the Director of Recruiting
- Bachelor’s Degree Required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of college athletics experience as a player, coach, or staff member or related field.
- Ability to communicate and connect with people from diverse backgrounds to build meaningful relationships
- Ability to organize plans of attack for priority targets in their recruitment process
- Time management to balance the communication time amongst different prospects by position
- Being able to work with different work styles coaches may have in executing what needs to get done
- Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce and explain such policies and rules\
- Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures
- Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure
- Demonstrated ability in public speaking skills
- Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for extended period of time
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan and organize work
- Proactive attitude towards work and assignments
- Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop personal contacts with outside groups, i.e. student-athletes, professional representatives, fans, media, donors, University community
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping and adherence to schedule
- Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area
- Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups and individuals
- Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours including nights and weekends (often with extensive walking and standing)
- Demonstrated skills in management of a Division IA (FBS) intercollegiate football program
- Demonstrated knowledge of effected areas of involvement
- Demonstrated ability to manage personnel
- Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments
