Position Summary: Responsible for managing all aspects of Tidelands Health Patient Financial Services functions. This includes the following:
- Leads and provides operational directives for all activities related to claims management, billing, and collections of Accounts Receivables and ensures timely, efficient cash collections to support overall financial goals of facility
- Prepares or directs the preparation of and analyzes all statistical reports to monitor trends and determine operational deficiencies and implements corrective-action plans as necessary
- Forecasts revenue projections based on staffing, program models, billable services, and payer reimbursements
- Monitors unbilled account reports to determine necessary actions required to minimize number and dollar-value of accounts being held for bill production; reports findings weekly; develops, in concert with other department heads, corrective actions necessary to clear accounts held for bill release
- Develops dashboards and graphs to illustrate Tidelands Health’s revenue cycle productivity goals while also maintaining and updating changes to this information on a regular basis in order to help identify ideas to increase efficiencies and streamline processes within the organization
- Works closely with hospital leadership to understand compliance needs, Patient Financial Services concerns and overall monitors the Patient Financial Services functions and completes other duties as assigned while exhibiting exemplary Tidelands Health core customer service values.
- Provides guidance to supporting service areas to include customer service, financial counseling, and training.
- Alerts Leadership to any concerns or of any needed modifications around billing, collections, denials, projected revenues or cash collections
- Communicates and collaborates with individual, program managers in effort to improve efficiencies and streamline processes for Tidelands Health’s billing-revenue cycle
- Leads departmental efforts and design with billing, collections, and denials
- Works closely with Cash Applications Manager on timely posting and cash reconciliation.
- Determines qualifications and competence of departmental personnel who provide billing, collections, and denials services.
- Evaluates all employee performance evaluations and annual education requirements and provides feedback to managing and supervisory staff to ensure consistency in application of performance-review process
- Maintains knowledge of current regulations and policies of Federal, State and private payers; keeps impacted departments informed of changes, revisions, and updates
- Stays abreast of latest developments and trends in field of Patient Financial Services by attending seminars/workshops and actively participating in interdisciplinary committees
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters that include Patient Health Information and Employee Data
- Ensure that the staff members adhere to all organizational standards, are productive, and produce high-quality work.
- Ensure staffing levels are appropriate, complete performance management, corrective action management, communicate and work with the human resource department in position posting process management and review of potential applicants for employment.
- Act as a link between the patient administration department and the various departments throughout Tidelands Health.
- Supervise, evaluate and train staff.
- Ensure departmental policies are followed.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skill and effective communication.

Qualifications
Education:
Must meet one of the following:
- High School Diploma with a minimum of fifteen years healthcare patient accounting experience required OR;
- Bachelors Degree in Business related field and a minimum of 5 years healthcare patient accounting experience required; OR,
- Acceptable combination of degree and experience
Experience/Qualifications:
Significant (10) or More Years of Experience with the following:
- Direct management of Patient Financial Services or Patient Accounting department.
- Exemplary communication and self-management skills required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Demonstrated experience with having strong interpersonal communication skills required.
- Prior experience with developing, interpreting and following detailed policies required.
- Demonstrated ability to independently think and make judgments in interpreting and adapting guidelines and making judgment decisions on specific problems required.
- Demonstrated ability to assign work and monitor productivity
- Ability and experience in developing and managing operational budgets
- Must pass PC typing test to demonstrate general PC aptitude and keyboarding ability at a minimum of 40wpm. required
- Demonstrated ability to handle projects and tasks efficiently (time management).
- Demonstrated ability to perform highly complex computerized procedural tasks.
- Passing post offer drug test required.
- Demonstrated prior excellence with interpersonal customer focus and problem solving skills required
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively among internal and external departments, as applicable, to identify and help resolve enterprise-wide challenges.
- Solid understanding of HIPAA transaction sets and compliance with HIPAA privacy laws
- Contract analysis and negotiation assistance – communicating payor relations issues timely and accurately.
- Working knowledge of best practice, contract management system logic, basic reporting skills, and payor policies and procedures.
- Exceptional MS Office suite proficiency (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio) with examples of such work provided.
