MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant Engineer (Mechanical).
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant Engineer (Mechanical). Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title salary grade 20 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. - Assist with the reviews of construction documents (drawings, specifications, and other supporting documentation) for conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and standards;
- Assist with the review of changes submitted for previously approved projects for conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and standards;
- Provide technical assistance to school districts, architects, and engineers working on public school projects;
- Assist with responding to correspondence from a wide range of individuals, including parents, citizens, school administrators, consultants, and legislators;
- Perform research, as necessary, to resolve code related issues;
- Make field visits and inspections, as required, to investigate code compliance, complaints, or emergency conditions;
- Assist with review of public-school building energy consumption and operations in compliance with NYS Energy Code and provide direction to improve energy performance; and
- Perform special projects as assigned.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position requires overnight statewide travel 5% of the time.
This position leads to a salary of $86,140 based on annual performance advances.
