Job Title: AOM - Strategist

Overview

Based in Port Everglades, Florida. The Operations Strategist is responsible for forecasting & analyzing the import & export volume and advising based on the results, making allocation suggestions based on previous trends. Coordinate with SSL, ERD and LDR based on vessel ETA. maintain a safe work environment, maximizing marine, yard, and gate productivity, controlling cost and meeting terminal and operational requirements. Assist with the enforcement of the security plan to ensure compliance with Federal Regulations CFR 105. Ensure to continuously strive to improve the service to all customers and provide an environmentally safe working environment for all FIT and ILA employees. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years transportation/stevedoring experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze the trend of export receiving (volume per day & total bookings) and forecast amount of export receiving per day for the following week.
  • Analyze the trends and forecast the upcoming segregations and suggest allocations for them based on the previous analysis.
  • Manage various forms of data rolling forecasts.
  • On a daily basis, suggested and coordinate with management team (FIT & ILA) where the upcoming discharge is going to be allocated based on current inventory, segregations (RFs, 40’, 20’, USDAs, Vacis, among others) and upcoming vessels & drain days.
  • On a weekly basis, forecast the import inventory and suggest actions based on the import utilization and upcoming vessel.
  • Analyze the import delivery per service and forecast amount of drain for the upcoming weeks.
  • Create empty strategy per line operator. Analyze trends and forecast the amount of receiving and deliveries per SSL for the following week.
  • Analyze the damaged inventory per SSL and suggest actions to be taken (repairs on OT, utilize additional space, drayage to/from Empty yard, close the gate, among others).
  • Weekly terminal reports (import/export/empties/reefers) to the SSL and internally about the terminal performance of the previous week and a forecast of the upcoming week.
  • Plan or project for adjustments to gate hours or weekend gate needs.
  • Prioritize terminal housekeeping (Imports, Exports, Empties).
  • Monitor vessel and gate production.
  • Prepare and facilitate daily planning/operations meeting for current and next day plan for all functions.
  • Manage the analyze the Import Heat Map.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance planner on forecasted CHE utilization.
  • Expert knowledge vessel schedule and terminal capacity.
  • Planning the next day drayage for the different processes.
  • Supervise yard labor order based on yard, gate, drayage & OOG activities.
  • Manage daily FIT’s Appointment system.
  • Expected to use your independent judgment and discretion in making important operational decisions. Your decisions should be guided by business needs with the goal of improving overall terminal operations. by maximizing labor efficiency and minimizing terminal turn-time.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of operating plans throughout the terminal facility vessel operation.
  • Primary point of contact between our customers (steamship lines or SSL) and the Vessel Execution department, vessel owners, agents and terminal ops.
  • Manage the Daily Vessel Schedule, vessel berthing, vessel CHE and the Vessel & Crane Work List (baplie file, load/discharge plan, re-stow list, OOG list IMDG list, among others.
  • Set the parameters for working vessels in conjunction with the terminal plan dictated by the yard, rail, and allocations strategy groups. The parameters you set will dictate the way our vessels are worked to not overwhelm the terminal.
  • Ensure that Hazmat manifests match TOS Haz List for vessel, updating all container records in the system. Ensure that master COPRAR is sent to central planner.
  • Once MOVENS (Stow Plan) file is received, upload file, stow the vessel, cross checking the special stowage of OOG, Reefer, and IMDG is stowed in correct position considering stack weights, under deck clearances, POD, and equipment size.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in the marine industry.
  • 3 years’ experience in a marine terminal setting preferred.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Previous experience working with Unions preferred (ILA, ILWA, Teamsters, etc.)
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification is desirable but not required.

  • Work generally performed in an office environment. Regular trips to the field are required that includes various
  • hazards and noise exposure.
  • Travel may be required for assignments, meetings, and training.
  • The job also requires availability for rotating on-call schedule, occasional unscheduled callouts, and extended workdays and/or workweeks.
