DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The General Services Department seeks a qualified Assistant Project Manager to oversee and coordinate personnel in evaluating, planning, and administration of various environmental and maintenance contract projects. Additionally, this candidate will also perform the following duties:

  • Performs basic technical inspections and investigative work relative to control of environmental pollutants and contaminants
  • Interprets contracts
  • Prepares and maintains various reports, records, and permits
  • Attends various conferences and meetings
  • Perform monthly visual inspections and measurements of contents in oil water separators and provide reports
  • Perform monthly inspections of stormwater manholes, grit traps, and grease traps
  • Maintain records of permits and documentation associated with permit compliance
  • Verifies and processes progress payments and negotiates the cost of changes to contracts. To perform the duties mentioned, driving is essential for this position
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 60 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are occasional discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve occasional exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.

Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with:
  • experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geotechnical, pollution/environmental control
  • Previous experience inspecting or maintaining Oil / Water Separators and Grease Traps.
Valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston Motor Vehicle Assignment and Use Policy (AP 2-2) is also preferred.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
