The Team
The Lynden International Operations team handles all aspects of international air export and import, as well as domestic ocean for our off shore markets including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Alaska and Guam, including customer service, daily movement of freight and documentation activity. This role will be responsible for supervising the international department, facilitating international freight movement for key customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform all aspects of customer service and carrier relations (negotiating rates & services and securing spot quotes with carriers to increase profits and reduce customer costs) through direct communication with customers and agents, and maintaining a professional image and insuring quality service. This includes communication and coordination with foreign agents utilizing both verbal and written communications.
  • Provide back up support to air and ocean operations.
  • Establish & manage relationships with vendors and carriers to maintain a quality level of service.
  • Knowledge of export and import routing and documentation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance for Import and Export
  • Identify and analyze customer requirements and ensure internal processes meet or exceed these.
  • Coordinating movement of freight, including determining routing to meet customers economic and time requirements.
  • Able to set and meet deadlines per internal and external customer expectations.
  • Analyze current market to ensure competitive rates and profitability and quote shipping rates to customers.
  • Coordinate warehouse inventories and process for international customers.
  • Ensure invoicing of customers is accurate to quoted and contractual obligations, and approve invoices for payment and submit to the general office for payment.
  • Schedule and conduct in-house trainings
  • Occasional overtime depending on the workload
  • Possible on-call scheduled for weekend
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required
  • Additional duties may be assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the International Work Group.
  • Monitored on result of work group's work against budgets, productivity objectives, and cost objectives.
  • Responsibilities include training and rewarding employees; setting priorities, assisting in planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work; assisting in appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; handling conflict-oriented or complex air and ocean situations
  • Recommending and implementing changes in procedures, systems, methods, and policies in cooperation with the international manager.
  • May provide planning and budgeting input.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school education or equivalent and six years international freight forwarding experience with one year lead or supervisory experience; or 1 year experience as International Agent 3; or Bachelor's Degree in related field and 3 year's international freight forwarding experience.
  • Intermediate MS Office products
  • Ability to supervise and motivate a team of individuals
  • Ability to calculate freight rates, including the effect of dimensionalized weight, and amounts such as percentages, volume, and discounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work accurately with a wide range of data and reporting
  • Great customer service skills are essential
  • Ability to solve practical and unusual problems and deal with a variety of complex or difficult situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form. Fully competent to make independent decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information in writing and in person in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Process brokerage and ISF entries through NetCHB a plus
  • Foreign language skills a plus
  • DG certification a plus
Ability to possess and maintain a TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA) with a status of Passed, or a TSA recognized equivalent. TSA recognized equivalents include a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement issued within the 50 States or District of Columbia, the Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), or Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. STA’s will be submitted by Lynden International upon job offer and renewed thereafter. Recognized equivalents must be current at time of application and successfully renewed by the applicant thereafter.
Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug test and undergo background screening.
