Summary of Job Duties:
Assistant Staff Scientist position is available for fully funded exciting comprehensive research projects to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases and developing therapeutic strategies. Researchers in the collaborative environment are engaged in the development and testing of drugs to treat cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases. The Staff Scientist will conduct cutting-edge research that includes animal phenotyping, 3-D and organoid cell culturing, drug design, and omics techniques. Under general direction of the PI, the Staff Scientist will independently perform studies and supervise laboratory personnel to advance the goals of the sponsored research projects. They will perform experiments, analyze data, and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure research integrity. The Staff Scientist will also communicate summaries of experimental results, maintain laboratory equipment, and order supplies and reagents for the general use of all members of the laboratory.

Qualifications:
  • PhD or other terminal degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field Knowledge of experimental design and scientific approaches and methodologies.
  • Expertise with several of the following techniques: cell culture, animal cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic phenotyping, omics assays, Western blot, flow cytometry, ELISA assays, histology and IHC, spectrophotometry, and RT-PCR.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.
  • Applicant must exhibit attention to detail, think critically, and demonstrate initiative.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute complex research methodologies and procedures.
  • Perform experiments under the direction of the PI, using physiological, biochemical, molecular biological, and histological techniques.
  • Manage analytical tools, including maintaining equipment, perform/supervise repairs, order supplies, negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders, update computer hardware and software.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance with animal, biological, chemical, and radiation regulations.
  • Oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.
  • Manage data entry by staff, and activities surrounding database, data collection, and data entry and data management.
  • Participate in and assist with the organization of meetings with PIs and research staff to evaluate/interpret the validity of experimental data.
  • Assist in training of research technologists, students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows.
  • Other duties as assigned.
