Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chair of Tribal Relations, the incumbent performs a wide range of duties in support of the administrative functions of the Office of the Tribal Liaison and the Native Resource Center.
The Assistant to the Tribal Liaison interacts with current and prospective students, parents, staff, faculty, administrators, donors, and other off campus constituents. The incumbent must have the ability to work with a minimum of direction and have the flexibility to work under changing conditions. The ability to maintain confidentiality of information is essential.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before December 31, 2023, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

- Experience managing an executive’s calendar.
- Front desk/reception experience.
- Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross- cultural needs of Native American students.
- Ability to collaborate and work with other units regarding issues of diversity and community.
- Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to conversional, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and situations.
- Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities.
- Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaborate with diverse constituencies.
- Experience working in a high-level executive office.
- Experience supporting high-level executives.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,505 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,508 per month.
