Responsibilities


GENERAL PURPOSE:

This role is central to promoting and ensuring a culture of trust, engagement, equity and inclusion through policies and practices uniting our staff around our common vision of making the University of Rochester a Great Place to Work. This position ensures a pro-active approach in engaging staff toward identifying and improving the work environment. This role is instrumental in the development of standards surrounding the University’s Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment (PADH) alternative resolution process including case tracking and reporting. This role will act as the subject matter expert for HR in managing the PADH alternative resolution process, including mediation of employee relations cases.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment:

Employee Relations:

  • Acts as program owner of the University’s Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment alternative dispute resolution process.
  • Develops standards for alternative resolution investigations, mediation, and corrective action processes. Collaborates and coordinates with the office of Equity and Inclusion on restorative responses, practices and resolutions.
  • Investigates employee relations cases where it has been determined that the PADH alternative resolution process is the most appropriate path forward.
  • Consults with HR Business Partners to ensure consistent interpretation and application of policies, procedures, regulations and resolution expectations.
  • Guides and assists in the use of positive means of resolving concerns, problems, and complaints that promote a fair, equitable and inclusive workplace.
  • Manages the HR Business Partner follow-up and tracking of cases in the alternative resolution process from internal systems.
  • Oversees the application of the University’s Grievance Procedure (Policy 160) relative to the PADH alternative resolution process by providing direction to HR Business Partners, staff, and leaders throughout the process.


Training Development: 10%

  • Identifies trends and opportunities for enhancements in policy, training, coaching, and development work using data compiled in the Case Management Database.
  • Develops and delivers training programs surrounding the PADH alternative resolution processes.


REQUIREMENTS
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business, or related field. 4 years of experience in Human Resources with a minimum of 3 years of employee relations experience and 5 years of leadership experience or equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Formal training in mediation or dispute resolution with 6 or more years as a practitioner and leader.
