The Associate Safety Promotion Consultant invests in our Purpose by providing safety related communications and expertise through a variety of channels to Flight Operations Employees. This role also supports new hire Pilots to in regard to flight safety for our Safety Management System. The Associate Safety Promotion Consultant is detail oriented an d a strong communicator who looks forward to collaborating with various Safety programs to make a meaningful impact on Southwest.

Job Summary
Provides communications expertise and develops written and oral safety communications and multimedia in collaboration with Flight Operations Engagement and Flight Operations Training to promote Safety in Flight Operations. Ensures all Flight Operations Employees are knowledgeable about Safety Management System (SMS) policies, processes, and tools relevant to each Employees responsibilities in support of the Safety & Security Commitment, Safety Objectives, and the SMS.
Responsibilities
Develops and manages oral and written safety promotions in coordination with Flight Operations Safety Teams and Flight Operations Engagement to promptly communicate relevant safety information per 14 CFR Part 5, Subpart E, § 5.93(b)
Manages the Safety Promotions calendar of recurring and ad-hoc safety topics to be communicated by specific channel
Leads development and supports safety communications content for SWALife, the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), and various other departmental digital communication channels
Presents Safety Promotions content and strategy to Employees and various levels of Leadership
Demonstrates subject matter expertise and provides thought leadership to Flight Safety in areas of work related to Safety Communication and Safety-related Training
Analyzes available readership data and survey results in support of continuous improvement of safety promotion processes and products
Fulfills Safety Promotions record keeping regulatory requirements per 14 CFR Part 5
Supports Safety Policy through regular review of the Safety Management Manual (SMM), contributions to the manual, and dissemination of relevant SMM content to Flight Operations
Leads and coordinates the flow of safety data and information to Flight Operations Training for Safety Promotions purposes (e.g. Distance Learning, New Hire briefings)
Builds and maintains relationships with all Flight Operations Safety programs, Flight Operations Teams, other SWA operating departments, and Safety & Security
Represents Flight Operations Safety at cross-departmental SMS meetings (e.g. Security & Safety Communicators Meeting)
Attends and presents at industry meetings and conferences related to Flight Operations Safety
Assists with other SMS processes and activities (e.g. Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance)
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems and the most recent applicable Advisory Circular
Knowledge of commercial aviation and flight operations
Knowledge of communication principles and best practices
Skilled in both written and verbal communication, including presentations to large groups
Skilled in research and problem solving
Skilled in organization with strong attention to detail
Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
Skilled both working independently, and as part of a Team
Ability to communicate complex topics in a clear and concise manner
Ability to work under pressure, at a fast pace, meet deadlines, and manage multiple situations simultaneously
Ability to maintain an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information

Preferred technical writing experience

Preferred experience in commercial airline operations, aviation safety, Safety Management Systems, and/or a similar field Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:
Technical writing and communications
Commercial airline operations; specifically, Flight Operations
Aviation Safety, Safety Management Systems (SMS), or similar field
Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station, desk, or office are of extended period of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
May require extended work hours as needed
Some business travel based on Company needs

Pay & Benefits:
Pay of $77,700 to $81,000 per year*. Additional pay opportunities for Company authorized work beyond part time or full time schedule.
