Collins Aerospace seeks visionary, action-oriented people to enable the adoption of Model-Based Engineering methods as part of the Model-based Engineering Department of Applied Research & Technology (ART) within Enterprise Engineering.

This role will focus on the development of projects with internal (Strategic Business Units) and external (Department of Defense) customers in the department technology areas (Formal Methods, Model Based Systems Engineering, Virtual Integration, Digital Thread & Twins technologies) with a focus on US defense products and services.

The ideal candidate has a track record of innovation, demonstrated leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills, teamwork and critical thinking skills, and experience capturing S&T funding that complements internal technology investments and engaging with Engineering Business Unit in transferring tools and methods to real products.

The candidate will report directly to the Department Leader of the Advanced Model-Based Engineering Methods Department.

Domestic and/or international business travel (up to 25% of the time) will be required.

This role is remote and can be performed at any Collins location both domestic and remote.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Quantify value and return of investment, identify, promote and execute projects that provides common capabilities across business units in the context of Model-Based Engineering.

  • Coordinate with the business units to capture requirements, develop coordinate plans and implement solutions aligned with the strategy.

  • Lead specific MBE projects to implement key digital capabilities.

  • Promote training and engagement at SBU level of mature technologies

  • Market innovative technology offerings to external technology customers, both aligning technology development with customer priorities and influencing technology customer interests.

  • Understand, document and lead modeling of engineering process, associated product information as models and data (digital twins), traceability and linking information. In addition, collaborate with the Digital Product Lifecycle Collins function to architect the integration of tools, information management systems (PLM, ALM, MES, etc) and data sources (digital thread).

  • Evaluate tools and system integration solution, drive relationship and collaboration with technology providers aligned with defined architectures.

  • Understand the requirements and drive the coordination of the development of solutions that ensure compliance to IP protection strategy and export control.

  • Promote and establish training for a Model-Based Engineering culture across multi-disciplines as well as with an industry partner.

  • Represent the department on national and international working groups and industrial standard bodies.

  • Although not the primary person responsible for the operation of the Department and for financial accounting for programs, this role has support responsibility for the execution of the selected projects and broad impact on the ability of the team to meet technical and financial commitments for program success.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations or equivalent experience and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert in the Model-Based Engineering domain area and experienced in deploying it on representative programs

  • Breadth and depth of knowledge in advanced software, data modeling and architecture, model-based technology, Model-Based Systems Engineering, simulation, virtual integration

  • Experience in tool architecture definition, tool prototype implementation, and tool integration and automation solutions

  • Broad understanding of model-based technologies, data factories, engineering and manufacturing data systems.

  • General understanding of digital engineering industry trends

  • Excellent understanding of Model-Based Engineering key languages and technologies such as SysML, Simulink, Modelica, SystemC

  • Knowledge of Avionic Safety standard (DO-178C/DO-331, ARP, …)

  • Knowledge of manufacturing technology is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex design efforts

  • Experience managing cost and schedule performance in a deadline schedule driven environment

  • 5+ years experience with aerospace and defense products

  • Strong business focus and analytical skills

  • Strong executive presence, whether in the RTX/Collins boardroom, or on a panel with startup CEOs, and demonstrated thought leadership in diverse situations.

  • An unreasonable combination of risk-tolerance, impatience, optimism, empathy, and vision, and a burning desire to make a difference.

  • Ability to influence teams and senior executive leadership in a highly complex, matrixed organization

  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills

The salary range for this role is 139,000 USD - 277,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
