JOB SUMMARY

The Associate General Counsel will support the Nabors mission and its staff address and resolve legal matters in settled and evolving areas of the law. Provide advice on legal issues as they arise, including areas of policy and regulatory review, administrative hearings, litigation, contracts and procurements, finance, and employment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist other departments and personnel in evaluating legal implications of proposed transactions or described situations
  • Provide formal and informal legal counsel on a variety of issues as requested by other departments and personnel
  • Assist in interpretation of and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Research legal issues as needed
  • Conduct internal investigations
  • Assist in developing and communicating company legal policies
  • Take general responsibility for legal issues or programs as requested
  • Review patent filings and related IP laws and regulations
  • Review the company’s IP portfolio to understand current IP and strategic direction
  • Examine IP used in the market for potential infringement of company’s IP
  • Enforce the company’s IP where applicable
  • Draft and review pleadings, contracts and related documents, including settlement agreements and software/technology licenses
  • Identify, retain and coordinate with external counsel when appropriate
  • Identify legal and commercial risks and provide guidance to functions and business units
  • Coordinate with Tax, Accounting and Risk Management departments when required to provide comprehensive review of IP enforcement
  • Advise other departments and personnel in resolving potential conflicts or legal actions
  • Supervise legal assistants in responding to production requests and scheduling of depositions
  • Advise senior management on suggested litigation and settlement strategies

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school
  • Admission to the State Bar of Texas
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience at a law firm or inhouse legal department
  • Ability to understand company’s global business goals and create strategic legal policies which advance those goals
  • Ability to quickly analyze problem situations presented and recommend sound legal and practical solutions
  • Ability to communicate legal and business advice orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to effectively interact with customer representatives and all levels of company employees from senior management to rig hands
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to manage and motivate outside counsel, inhouse counsel and administrative support personnel to achieve department goals
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters in accordance with company policies without direct supervision
  • Ability to research legal issues using print and electronic legal reference materials
    • Some experience in all, and substantial experience in at least one, of the following substantive legal areas: securities matters, corporate transactions, commercial contracts, real estate transactions; commercial litigation
  • Prior legal experience in the oilfield service industry helpful
  • Basic computer skills
