DescriptionWorking with the VPAA, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (AVPAA) provides leadership to assigned educational/administrative support units to support and develop quality academic and co-curricular programs. The AVPAA is responsible for managing a broad range of activities in support of strategic planning, accreditation, scholarly activity, academic support, and faculty/staff development. The AVPAA develops and maintains professional relationships with partners in business, industry, primary and secondary education, and other stakeholders to support the mission and strategic goals. The AVPAA serves as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team.
Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and support to assigned educational/administrative support units in matters of academic strategy, exploring, developing, launching, and sustaining educational initiatives consistent with the university mission.
2. Ensure the implementation of the university vision, mission, and strategic plan throughout assigned educational/administrative support units.
3. Ensures academic support programs are comprehensive, robust, and meet the needs of all students.
4. Provide leadership in the area of faculty, administrative and staff development and professional growth.
5. Provide support and coordination assisting with the ongoing review of accreditation processes; report writing and review; provide guidance, advice and coaching to those responsible for accreditation to understand and meet all accreditation standards, regional or programmatic
6. Provide support to research chairs, encouraging and supporting scholarly activity and engagement for college faculty, staff, and students, where applicable.
7. Assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of the Life Academic Master Plan and DCP curricula redesign.
8. Work with direct reports to plan, develop and implement the annual budget for the academic division of the University; approve expenditures; and maintain a balanced budget.
9. Fosters a community dedicated to learning; implements effective review of academic policies and procedures.
10. Provides support for and monitors progress towards increasing rates for student retention, progression, and graduation, working with the College deans to maximize institutional resources while facilitating student progress toward degree completion.
11. Assists in the preparation of Academic Affairs reports and data to internal and external bodies.
12. Engage in the regular evaluation of faculty and staff as appropriate and directed by the Annual Evaluation of Employees Policy.
13. Oversees articulation agreements with other institutions in conjunction with College appointed liaisons.
14. Serves as the VPAA’s designee in their absence.
Requirements
1. Ph.D or Ed.D in Education, Adult Education or Higher Education Leadership from an accredited institution of higher education.
2. 7-10 years’ demonstrated accomplishment and experience in a high-level administrative capacity within college/university settings, including experience with a doctor of chiropractic program.
3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, directors, staff and other campus personnel and external constituencies.
4. Experience working collaboratively in an environment of shared governance.
