Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Draft letters, memoranda, and other legal documents regarding legal issues that are often complex, generally for review by a higher graded attorney.
  • Provide oral and written advice to senior attorneys in the Office of Government Ethics, agency ethics officials, and ethics counselors throughout the Executive Branch on a wide variety of topics of interest to the ethics community.
  • Assist senior attorneys and the OGE Director through research and writing related to Executive Branch ethics policy.
  • Draft legal advisory opinions concerning conflicts of interest and the standards of conduct for employees of the Executive Branch.
  • Review financial disclosure reports, identify potential conflicts of interest, and propose resolution of conflicts.
  • Make presentations within OGE and to Federal agencies and other organizations.

  • Federal agencies may request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.

Qualifications

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. 1. Be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation; AND

In addition, applicants must meet the following specialized experience requirement:
Specialized experience for the GS-11: You must meet the basic requirement of being a law school graduate and a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law.
Specialized experience for the GS-12: You must have a minimum of 1 year practicing as a licensed attorney.
Specialized experience for the GS-13: You must have a minimum of 2 years practicing as a licensed attorney.

Education

MUST bea graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation.
