The Opportunity
Ally’s Internal Audit team is seeking an experienced project manager to join our team to help prioritize, manage and deliver process improvement initiatives that drive innovation and employee engagement. This newly created role will join us at a pivotal time as we continue to transform Internal Audit and the way we operate.
The Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives (PM_SI) will interface with Audit Leaders to manage strategic initiative projects that support Audit Services’ goals and long-term vision. The PM_SI will partner, collaborate, and influence internal resources and external stakeholders to effectively execute strategy and deliver on Internal Audit’s value proposition. The PM_SI will be responsible for operationalizing strategic initiatives leveraging best practices, project/portfolio management and the coordination of prioritization and resourcing activities. Additional responsibilities include defining role/responsibilities, assigning individual tasks, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure quality and timely completion of projects. The PM_SI will also develop and maintain project materials (e.g., strategy documents, status updates, business requirements, etc.) and present/report progress to project sponsors, audit execution teams, Executive Leaders and external stakeholders as needed.
The Work Itself
- Lead various strategic workstreams within the department, including those related to methodology, technology, talent and engagement.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, and their respective project teams of varying sizes, complexity and backgrounds through the entire project management life cycle.
- Allocate and direct resources to accomplish project tasks and maintain project schedule.
- Establish and maintain project plans and resource budgets, define and track project KPIs & metrics, escalate issues, and report progress including milestones, roadblocks and final deliverables.
- Assist with monitoring and reporting IA’s strategic objectives and key results.
- Assist with defining system requirements for technology development projects to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency as needed.
- Conduct an ongoing analysis of project scope, change requests, agile metrics, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to determine if the project is delivering the expected results throughout each phase of development
- Contribute to thoughtful and creative discussions with project sponsor(s), stakeholders, and management on strategic goals, resources, scheduling, plans and challenges.
- Prepare project health reports, lessons learned, and other presentations for consumption by various stakeholders as needed
- Manage the day-to-day projects/logistics and the corresponding communication for each project.
- Develop, review, and revise project management processes to ensure all steps are completed in an efficient manner.
- Keen sense of prioritization and time management to ensure maximum effectiveness of time use.
- Exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve complex problems regarding projects.
The Skills You Bring
- 5 or more years of project management, process improvement or related business experience
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to balance strategic goals for the department with the needs and expectations of the audit execution teams
- Experience with change and time management practices and knowledge of Project Management Methodologies and tools (e.g. MS Teams, Jira, etc.)
- Strong ability to summarize results and present processes, communications & strategies in a simple, meaningful, and impactful way
- Advanced PowerPoint and data reporting/visualization skills (e.g. PowerBI, SharePoint, etc.)
- Track record of building trusting relationships with key stakeholders, and influencing cross-functional teams, including matrix partners and 3rd party vendor resources
- Training and certification as a Project/Program Manager (e.g., PMP), Scrum Master (CSM), or Agile Release Train Engineer (RTE) preferred
- Proven experience driving process improvement initiatives and using related techniques/methods (e.g., Design Thinking, Agile, Scaled Agile, Lean, etc.)
