The focus of Genentech's Hillsboro Technical Operations (HTO), located in Hillsboro Oregon, is Drug Product manufacturing (Component Prep & Compounding, Liquid/Lyophilized Filling, Automated/Manual Inspection, Packaging/Finished Products and Distribution.)
We are seeking an early in career Automation Engineer who possesses a passion for engineering, design, installation, and start-up of automation systems. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our manufacturing operations with problem solving related to automation systems, ensuring seamless process operation, and validating process and facility automation systems. In addition, you will serve as a valuable resource to colleagues to help build a knowledgeable workforce. Responsibilities:
Develop, deploy and test automation solutions to support Drug Product operations
Lead/support automation validation efforts
Investigate proprietary automation software/hardware problems with vendors and develop patches/enhancements
Compile/maintain requirements and design specifications
Interface with manufacturing and other end users of the system and implement necessary changes to improve the system's overall efficiency
Participate in continuous improvement projects
Support integration, commissioning and qualification activities of new equipment
Follow applicable standard operating procedures while working in validated systems
Participate in a 24/7 on call support rotation for escalated automation issues
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of hands on experience with the following control systems: Rockwell FactoryTalk/ControlLogix PLC, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, PowerFlex Drives and Kinetics Motion Control; or Master’s degree with 0-2 years
Theoretical and applied knowledge of process instrumentation, continuous process control, S88 batch programming, validation and GMP regulations applicable to automated systems
Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and P&ID drawings
Must be able to successfully work independently and within teams
Must be able to support shift operations at the facility onsite in Hillsboro, OR
Preferred Qualifications:
BS degree in engineering
A demonstrated ability to apply automation solutions and troubleshoot complex problems on highly automated equipment to address business needs
Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical or medical device
