Airport Security is a section of the Airport Operations Division of Denver International Airport and is comprised of two (2) units: Badging & Background Services and Compliance & Enforcement. The Aviation Security Program Manager may manage one of several programs/duties in either unit which may include Regulatory Audit/Inspections, Construction, Security Guard Contracts, Violation Notice Program, or Badging & Background Services. The actual allocation of duties will be determined in conjunction with other similar positions in the unit.
Listed below are some of the programs/duties that may be assigned to the individual selected for this position.
Regulatory Audit/Inspections
  • Serves as the unit's primary manager in the development of Secured and Sterile Area inspections, audit programs for compliance with TSA regulations, TSA issued Security Directives, DIA's Airport Security Program (ASP), Operating Instructions (OI) and other departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manages the Physical Access Control program and associated requests involving access control.
Construction
  • Serves as construction liaison responsible for providing security operations and regulatory guidance to project management teams, initiative oversight, and technical access control expertise for airside and landside construction projects.
  • Manages the Lock Shop, locksmiths, and various projects and programs involving key and lock systems at DEN.
Security Guard Contracts
  • Provides primary administrative and operational support to the Security Contracts Administrator overseeing the Security Guard Agreement(s).
  • Manages Public Area Security programs and associated initiatives.
Violation Notice Program
  • Serves as the primary manager responsible for the administration of the Security Violation Notice Program.
  • Manages the Authorized Signatory program and new company onboarding.
Badging & Background Services
  • Serves as the primary manager responsible for the administration of Background Services and team.
  • Provides operational support to the Badging Office team in the processing of Airport ID badge applications, administration of badgeholder training, and badge issuance.
All positions will be responsible for the following:
  • By position, performs some or all of the elements of supervision or lead work including work planning, instruction, and review, handling grievances and disciplinary actions, hiring and dismissing employees, and evaluating employee performance
  • Participates in the formation of operating policies and procedures, provides advice and interpretative information pertaining to policies and procedures, evaluates proposed changes to policies and procedures including the merit and overall impact of changes to the functional area, and makes recommendations
  • Performs a variety of specific administrative activities/projects, participates in the development of long range and short-term planning initiatives for the functional area, and serves as a liaison with other departmental officials, community groups, and/or other units
  • Acts as a technical expert in a functional area, provides consultative and technical guidance to managers and/or other officials/stakeholders, and handles sensitive and/or confidential issues, complaints, and/or inquires
  • By position, assists in the development and processing of contracts including participating in drafting RFP for contracts, evaluating proposals, and administering contracts for compliance and expenditures, and assists in the development and implementation of the budget and approves expenditures
  • Conducts studies and/or research projects within the scope of the functional area, prepares comprehensive reports that reflect findings and conclusions, recommends feasible solutions in areas that require attention or change, and implements approved recommendations
  • All positions may be required to assist with other programs and duties, as needed
  • Serves as an alternate Airport Security Coordinator, providing 24/7 on-call coverage

  • Experience working in an environment that is regulated by local, state and/or federal requirements.
  • Experience in creating/managing aviation security programs and/or projects.
  • Experience in collecting metrics and preparing analytical reports.
  • Interacts with customers in a friendly and professional manner, works to resolve issues quickly and effectively, and is knowledgeable about products and services.
  • Shows respect for the views and contributions of other team members. Shows empathy, listens, supports, and cares for others, and reconciles conflict.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s)
  • Experience: Three (3) years’ experience performing full performance professional level duties within a specialized, functional area. (This does not include clerical experience)
  • Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Licensures/Certification(s): Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application.
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
