REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 
  Bachelor’s Degree in music education
• Must possess sufficient skills to perform and demonstrate performance techniques on a woodwind instrument
• Must have knowledge of pedagogical methods, techniques and processes to provide a sequential and consistent program of woodwind, brass and percussion instruction for students
• Must possess sufficient skills to perform and demonstrate performance techniques on secondary instrumental
• Appropriate DESE teaching license
• Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to use technology effectively

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 
  Master’s Degree or significant post-graduate coursework in subject area
• Experience playing and/or teaching string instruments

• 
  Ability to assess student progress and engage students through varied repertoire, technical exercises, and other creative activities in a group lesson format
• Possess appropriate communication skills to relate to students and parents positively and effectively
• Maintain communication with Melican Middle School Band Director regarding student status and all issues related to their participation in the program
• This position includes teaching wind instruction by grade level during the school day for students in grades 6-8.
• General music instruction for middle school.
• Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students
• Other duties as needed

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there will be before/after school sectionals and rehearsals for Jazz Ensemble, as well as, week-end festival performances. There may also be occasions for afterschool meetings.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
