Cicero District 99 seeks to hire Spanish-English bilingual and biliterate dual language teachers. The positions will be responsible for facilitating teaching and learning in a dual language (DL) instructional model in which students learn Spanish and English in academic content areas. In addition, these positions will create dual-language classroom environments that ensure learning and skills necessary to contribute to students’ language proficiency in Spanish and English, as well as academic and social growth.

Classroom demographics will vary based on the program model. In a two-way DL classroom, there will be students identified as Spanish speakers as well as monolingual English speakers. In a one-way DL classroom, all students will be Spanish speakers, per the WIDA MODEL assessment.

Position Summary

Qualifications & Requirements

• All applicants must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator LicenseBilingual Education Teacher Spanish Endorsement required

• Language acquisition and development knowledge to scaffold, support and challenge students through rigorous curriculum
• Ability to create engaging lessons for English Learners with strategies to support learning
• Collaborative skills necessary to work with a variety of colleagues in a professional learning community
• A growth-mindset that includes having a positive attitude towards learning and growing professionally
• An innovative mentality with a focus on sound pedagogical practice through 21st century tools

Duties & Responsibilities

• To maintain and support the language of instruction and apply second language acquisition best practices for English and Spanish
• To guide the learning process toward the achievement of bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism
• To use academic and language assessment data to meet the instructional needs of each student
• To employ instructional methods and obtain a variety of materials and resources for use in educational purposes that are most appropriate for meeting stated curriculum objectives and district benchmarks
• To plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences for students.
• To use and operate relevant technology and resources provided by the district to support instruction
• To maintain an effective classroom environment according to the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
• To effectively communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs in written and verbal communications
• To attend staff, department, and school meetings and serve on staff committees as requested/required
• To initiate and complete personnel, staff development, training, workshops, and attendance documentation as required by administration
• To strive to maintain and improve professional competence by keeping up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods and making relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
• To perform other duties as required by the administration

Terms of Employment

Start Date: August 2023

Hours: 8:25 am – 3:25 pm

Work Year: 10 month school calendar

Compensation: As outlined in the teacher’s collective bargaining agreement

Union Affiliation: Union
