Dane County Waste and Renewables is recruiting for a Biogas Technician. The current vacancy is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. The eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies for the next six (6) months. All are encourage to apply.

DEFINITION
Critical member of the Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables Biogas Team that is responsible for operating a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Plant that converts landfill gas to pipeline quality RNG that is injected into the interstate transmission pipeline. The Plant also has systems to offload RNG transported to the site via tube trailers. In addition, Dane County continues to operate landfill gas powered engines that generate electricity at a closed landfill site. These facilities have helped Dane County achieve its renewable energy goals and advance the biogas industry with their innovation. This entry level classification is responsible for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the RNG Plant, biogas offload station, engines/generators, and landfill gas extraction system components and is critical to successful operation of these facilities. Objectives include safety, compliance with applicable regulations, and maximizing renewable energy production and revenues.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Monitors RNG Plant performance and operations and adjusts operating equipment. Performs, coordinates and records equipment inspections and operating conditions. Performs routine and unexpected maintenance on rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, fans, motors, blowers, etc.), electrical generation equipment (engines, switchgears, generators), flow controls, sensors, analyzers, burners (flares, thermal oxidizers), heat transfer equipment (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning - HVAC, heat exchangers), and instrumentation and control systems (human machine interface - HMI, programmable logic controller - PLC, variable frequency drive - VFD).
Diagnoses and corrects adverse operating conditions and equipment malfunctions, including emergency repairs, associated with the Plant, engines/generators, and the landfill gas extraction system.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Training and Experience:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to three (3) years in Mechanics, HVAC, Electrical, Automation, Instrumentation, Controls, Programming, or at least eighteen (18) months of direct experience in Plant Operations, Solid Waste Management, Landfill Gas System Operations, Pipeline or Natural Gas Operations, Digester Operations, or another related field or industry.
Special Requirements:
Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies or unexpected maintenance events. Must be able to be on-call for night and weekend work.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
Ability to lift 70 pounds maximum with frequent lifting (up to 50 times a day) and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to wear a respirator. Ability to enter and work in small confined spaces. Physically capable of running light equipment; operating hand tools and power tools; climbing ladders; working from heights; working with poor lighting; and working in conditions of wind, dust, rain, snow, ice, extreme temperatures, and excessive noise.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, piping, HVAC systems, flow meters, control valves, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and PLCs. Ability to work from engineering drawings and operational manuals to troubleshoot, diagnosis, and repair operational issues. Ability to work independently or as a team to analyze problems, develop solutions, and make or recommend sound alternatives. Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working internal and external relationships. Ability to be creative, flexible, self-motivated, organized, and quality and customer service oriented. Knowledge of various applicable software applications including Word and Excel.
