Job description
The Assistant Brewer position at Fisher Brewing Company is an entry-level brewery job, where the assistant brewer assists the head brewer in accomplishing the myriad tasks required to manufacture beer.
Primary responsibilities:
This position is largely janitorial in nature. A brewery is little more than a never-ending cycle of cleaning.
- Must learn and follow brewery SOP (standard operating procedure) for draft-line cleaning.
- Cleaning and sanitizing kegs and maintaining the brewery's semi-automated keg washing system
- Racking beer from brite barrel tanks into kegs
- Become proficient in CIP (Clean in place) methods for cleaning and sanitizing brite barrel tanks
- Become proficient in CIP methods for cleaning and sanitizing fermenting vessels
- Become proficient in carbonating and testing carbonation levels in finished beer
- Become proficient in CIP methods for cleaning and sanitizing brewery heat exchanger and sanitary beer line hoses
- Become proficient with the brewery's cellar operations: dropping yeast and trub from fermenters; dry-hopping; operating the brewery's cooling and Co2 systems
- Maintaining a clean and orderly storage area for the brewery's barley. Stacking 55-pound bags of grain
- Maintaining a clean and orderly storage area for the brewery's spent grain
- Cleaning up brewery and performing a thorough walk-through of brewery, cellar and walk-in cooler at the close of every shift
- Assisting in the canning of beer on the brewery's semi-automated canning line. This task involves stacking cases of beer neatly on a pallet.
- Learning and following all brewery SOPs and safety protocols
- A willingness to learn, listen and remain flexible with regard to the nature of the brewery's work, which is dynamic and can alter rapidly during any given year.
Work Environment:
- Much of this work takes place in a walk-in cooler, where temperatures are maintained near 35 degrees fahrenheit. The Assistant Brewer must be able to perform responsibilities in a cold environment
- The Assistant Brewer must be physically fit and able to repeatedly lift weights of up to 55 pounds
- This work requires the tasting and critical analyses of beer. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
Work Schedule:
- The Assistant Brewer work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Experience: No prior experience working in a brewery or brewing beer is necessary to be a successful candidate for this job. An openness to learning new skills and a willingness to be taught are required.
