Position Highlights
The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The UACC has recently been re-designated as a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The UACC is the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in the State of Arizona and one of only 53 in the nation.

The University of Arizona is seeking an experienced Building Manager to coordinate and track building renovations, maintain research lab and building inventory space, scientist onboarding and offboarding, and track and manage Center projects at UACC buildings at the Tucson campus. The ideal candidate will have the ability to be responsive to changing needs and can act as a strategic partner in conjunction with Cancer Center leadership to coordinate the unique needs of a diverse client group, including scientists, staff, administrators, and academically minded physicians.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage all onboarding and offboarding of scientist's actions related to Facilities and Equipment including tagging of all items purchased on start-up funds according to UA policies.
  • Coordinate with labs on relocations, lab prep and clean-up, inventory checklists, placement of equipment upon arrival and reassignment of equipment upon departure.
  • Manage work orders to accommodate specific electrical needs or requirement for large items with special handling needs.
  • Develop fiscally efficient systems to maintain and inventory all equipment.
  • Work closely with the tech committee on maintaining common room equipment.
  • Plan, design and execute renovation projects with scientists and administrators utilizing both internal and external facilities vendors.
  • Maintain accurate space maps and inventory of vacant and assigned space.
  • Respond to and manage routine and emergency maintenance facilities requests.
  • Initiate, update and track work orders submitted through the Limble and Qualtrics systems to Facilities Maintenance.
  • Coordinate with campus central receiving for handling and delivery of larger items.
  • Manage building security and access by granting and revoking digital various levels of building access to center staff and external users.
  • Oversee databases for digital card access, key requests and reports. Receives and distribute mail, including perishable items for laboratories.
  • Monitor multiple notification systems, including laboratory IMonitt freezers, lab and department room reservations, listservs, Notifii.
  • Supervise student workers who will be responsible for working in the mail room.
  • Manages surplus and hazmat requests and disposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple project timelines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and project management software.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to respond to emergency requests on evenings and weekends via telephone or in person.
  • Ability to supervise student workers.


Minimum Qualifications
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five-years' experience in medical research building facilities coordination.

  • Five years’ experience in wet lab research environment.
