Tehachapi Unified School District has a vacancy for the position of Bus Driver at Transportation, 6.50 hours per day / 5 days per week / 193 day work calendar
Tentative Start Time: 5:30 am
Work times may vary and are subject to change based upon the needs of the District
Transportation does work split shifts

TITLE: Bus Driver
CERTIFICATED/CLASSIFIED: Classified
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS): Operate a school bus over designated routes to transport students to and from school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES):
- Drive a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students.
- Drive bus on field trips as assigned.- Assist in maintaining the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.- Fuel vehicle and perform daily routine safety check.- Maintain good order among the students on the bus, following district policies regarding student discipline.- Maintain appropriate contact with parents of passengers.- Attend staff and safety meetings as required.- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS): Knowledge of:
- Safe driving and transporting practices.- Demonstrated ability to drive a passenger vehicle in a safe, responsible manner.
Ability to:
- Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.- Ability to walk and ascend and descend steps.- Ability to see for the purpose of obtaining a drivers license.- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand routine instructions and emergency directions.- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, reach and perform all movements necessary to operation of a passenger bus.- Ability to lift 80 pounds for the purposes of passenger assistance.
Training and Experience:
- Possession of a valid California Drivers' license combined with a driving history which shows evidence of a responsible driving behavior pattern.
- Interpersonal skills conducive to maintaining discipline and cooperative behavior with passengers in a school vehicle.
- Possession of California Special Driver Certificate and Commercial Drivers License.

BARGAINING UNIT: Classified SALARY SCHEDULE: O May 1996
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.04 - $26.14 per hour
