The Corporate and Markets pillar of Group Change is responsible for delivery of change to Bank of Ireland's C&M division which serves customer brilliantly through a broad treasury product and services offering.
There are a number of large scale transformation programmes under way in this area currently and the Group Change team is expanding to cater for the needs of these programmes and to ensure that the knowledge gained on this is retained within BOI.
Purpose of the Role
The role of the Business Analyst in Bank of Ireland is key to any project. They must work with the business to define requirements and to facilitate the design of business and technology solutions that best support the achievement of customer goals. They will liaise with technical and test teams to ensure the final design will meet the business' needs.
The Business Analyst will work in a multi-vendor change delivery team running large and complex programmes across both C&M legacy and new estates. Projects often involve significant complexities including regulatory requirements, complex legacy infrastructure, multiple business units, IT security considerations and critical service introduction activity.
It is important to adhere to BOI's culture, values and behaviour. Proactive participation within the team and division is expected as appropriate.
Key Accountabilities
Demand and Portfolio Management Support
- Work alongside senior business stakeholders, in a pre-project capacity, to produce a high-level view of business need to facilitate the preparation of the Do-Ability assessment / Business Case
- Conduct research to determine if solutions to business requirements currently exist within or outside the business area, and if not, whether new solutions are feasible
- Support the budgeting, scoping, planning and shaping of the solution, working alongside the business, Group Change and Group IT.
Process / Org / Op Model Design
- Detail the expected impacts of any business or technology change on the existing systems, operations, organisation, operating model and end-to-end processes
- Deliver detailed process, organisation, information and operating model design
- Provide Lean expertise to identify Lean opportunities for process & information design during projects
Requirements Elicitation
- Engage to elicit, capture, prioritise and manage business requirements
- Produce the Business Requirements Definition documentation and/or Project Definition Document and any other relevant documentation
- Responsible for obtaining business signoff of the functional requirements and working with the Solution Architect, Technical Designer and Development team, providing input to the technical requirements definition and low level technical design where required
- Trace and monitor requirements during all delivery stages from development and unit testing to detailed user acceptance testing to ensure there are no gaps between what is specified and what is ready to be deployed, identifying scope issues to the Project Manager
- Support in eliciting non-functional requirements from the business.
Project Delivery Support
- Act as 'translator' between the business and Group IT or external providers, clarifying doubts / questions and settling conflicts between the business and the delivery team
- Where appropriate to the project/programme, design and review the use cases, test cases and scripts for user acceptance testing
- Act as a core repository of knowledge - e.g. participate in testing, validating, piloting, researching and resolving post implementation issues
- Sign off on any retesting arising from Post-Implementation/ Verification/First Occurrence/Pipeclean or pilot defects
- Document system scenarios and identify roles impacted to support the Project Manager in developing an organisational change/training plan for the business
- Design and deliver user and training manuals and facilitate the training of business users in any new/updated solutions or business processes
- Contribute to post project reviews and where mandated, perform a post-implementation benefits analysis
Alignment and Support
- Adhere to and support the definition and continuous upkeep of Business Analysis, Design and Documentation standards, appropriate methodologies as set and conform to applicable architectural standards
- Contribute to mechanisms to preserve, harvest and share key knowledge within key collaborators, using appropriate tools (e.g. wiki etc.), to facilitate the development of others
Risk and Compliance
- Maintain & monitor standards, controls, processes and solutions, to minimise business and IT risk
- Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards
Management Support
- Live and support Group culture, values and behaviours
- Positive and proactive participation within the team and active collaboration with colleagues across Group Change, Group IT and Group as appropriate

Essential Qualifications
- Business Analysis experience and related certification
- 3+ years working in agile/waterfall project environments and/or an area dealing with Commercial Lending and/or Capital Markets products.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Good product knowledge (Derivatives, Fixed Income or Commercial Lending)
- experience with trading apps like Summit or Murex
- Competency in Oracle SQL or similar
- Data Analysis

- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Basic financial analysis skills i.e. can understand and assist in preparation of a cost benefit proposition or a case
